I do wonder, though, if he wasn't partially motivated - even subconsciously - by the desire to take a dig. Nothing makes one feel better about oneself than the "she did it because she's jealous of me" scenario. It's much more flattering than the alternative theory.

agreed. as i was writing how competitive they are with each other - and then how they know how to trigger each other, i started to wonder about that too.
