Ever since RUMOURS was released, or at least very soon after the time of its release, critics and Christine have acknowledged that three of her songs on that record were for or to specific people:

Don't Stop was written for John
YMLF was written for Curry Grant
Songbird was a kind of "prayer" written "for everyone and no one"

But only after Mick insisted that Oh Daddy was written for him did Christine permit the possibility of that interpretation. Hey, if people want to see it that way, fine. But it's a stretch in my book. Just as Christine saying in 2014 that her 1975 song "Over My Head" was about Lindsey. I just don't buy it. I DO buy the idea that the band will do anything to breathe new relevance into songs that were considered old by 1987.

On the whole, most of her songs are so plain and universal that there barely needs to be a context to support their existence. So why bother? She writes basic love songs.

One thing Christine doesn't do is say "Don't Stop is about Bill Clinton--I realize that now."
