I got tickets for Elton John as a Christmas present surprise for my Mum a few years ago and he cancelled with 5 hours to go.

My Dad travelled from Scotland to London to see Seasick Steve with me and the venue had flooded, causing problems with the electrics. Cancelled with about an hour until doors opened. Steve came out to play some acoustic stuff to disappointed people turning up to the venue, which was a nice touch (although I didn't see any of it!).
That was pretty gutting, we just propped up a bar for the rest of the night!

I saw Blur at T In The Park years ago and Graham Coxon had food poisoning. He'd been in hospital all day, but they hired a helicopter and despite being an hour late, he turned up and played! Proper trooper.

Nothing much can be done with illness - it can't be an easy decision for any part of the group to make. The companies involved will lose thousands, not to mention obviously the fans.
