It's actually a fun non-word that a cartoonist named Berkely Breathed made up for his comic strip, Bloom County, which was
very popular back in the 1980s.
He unfortunately retired - "took the money and ran" - so it's not as well-known as it used to be. Back in its prime, though, it was very entertaining and imaginative; and a lot of words he made up sort of "became part of the vernacular" for awhile.
Anyway it just simply meant "screwed up."
By the way he used to sign his name dehtaerB ylekreB. (Backwards.) Because that's what evil Satanists do.
He was being sarcastic, of course - it was a "poke" at alarmists who saw Evil and Armageddon everywhere they looked, at that point in time.
