HONOLULU (AP) — A Hawaii benefit concert for the victims of the earthquake and tsunamis that hit Japan last month raised $1.6 million.
Event organizers say the event on the Great Lawn at Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki raised $1.6 million as of Sunday afternoon. Donations will continue to be accepted at
www.kokuaforjapan.com. The sold-out Sunday concert was called "Kokua For Japan," using the Hawaiian word for "help."
Entertainers included Jack Johnson, Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald and Mick Fleetwood. Hawaiian music performers included Henry Kapono, Amy Hanaialii, and the Brothers Cazimero.
All proceeds from the $15 tickets are to benefit the American Red Cross for Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami relief efforts. All entertainers, crew and event producers donated their time and resources for the event
