For example, let’s listen as Stevie Nicks butchers “Silent Night.”

She sounds like a walrus caught in a bagpipe. And outside of The Exorcist, I’ve never seen such a sinister cross. Glenn has a point, it certainly looks like Stevie Nicks wants to take away our Christmas. Just look at that video – if the Mother of God had seen Stevie in that getup, she would have gone into early labor, and we’d be celebrating Christmas and Thanksgiving on the same day. Deck the Halls With Bags of Stuffing? At the very least, Mary would have bolted with Baby Jesus to someplace safer, like Egypt.

Other Christmas songs are disconcerting. While in gift giving it is the thought that counts, let’s consider the theory behind ”The Little Drummer Boy.” A little boy has no cash at Christmas so he offers to play for Baby Jesus:

“I have no gifts for you…I’ll play my drum for you…pah rumm pah pum pum.“

When my son was first born, if a boy with a drum positioned himself next to my sleeping baby, I would have wrapped the drumsticks around the neck of the moron (obviously a guy soused on egg nog) who put the kid up to it.

“Mary nodded…and smiled at me“? Who wrote that? A man with no kids, that’s who.
