Bluesfest line-up one Crowded House
Seanna Cronin | October 29th, 2009

CROWDED House will help Bluesfest christen its new home at Tyagarah next year as the headliners of the festival's largest line-up to date.

The 21st annual event will be the iconic band's first Bluesfest appearance.

Joining them in the first line-up announcement are Roger Hodgson from Supertramp, Jimmy Barnes, Deadly Award-winner Jessica Mauboy, Oscar-winning duo The Swell Season, Newton Faulkner, Bela Fleck's African Project and more.

"We are so energised about the amazing artists in this first announcement -- it's easily our best ever first announcement just looking at the depth across the entire list," said festival director Peter Noble.

Festival organisers have come good on their promise to please guitar lovers with the inclusion of maestros like Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee Buddy Guy, former Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck, world guitar great Al Di Meola, original Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green, flamenco guitarists the Gipsy Kings and Joe Bonamassa -- a young blues guitarist who recently sold out London's Royal Albert Hall.

Also on the bill is rock super group Robert Gordon & the Gang They Couldn't Hang, featuring Chris Spedding of Roxy Music, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols and Slim Jim Phantom of Stray Cats.

An interesting addition to the line-up is RocKwiz, the live touring version of the SBS music trivia show hosted by Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis.

The pair will host three RocKwiz shows on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival, which will be held from April 1 to 5 over the Easter long weekend.

The festival capacity will remain at 17,500 people but the new location, Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, will accommodate three times as many campers -- 6,500 compared to 1,800 last year at Belongil Fields.

The second line-up announcement is expected mid-to-late next month.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now through the Bluesfest website, www.bluesfest.com.au
