this is the first time i've been to the ledge in over a month and my head already hurts...
i think the new album is anything but a failure. a local DJ bitched for a week about not having a tour date in florida. the crowd at the one show i went to (nashville) went crazy for the new songs. the book stores around here have been promoting it; playing it in the store, placing it on the front racks and such. i've personally watched two non-fans purchase the album after inquiring about what disc was on the stereo. that's "success" to me. reaching out to people and making a connection. the resulting sale is (or should be) icing on the cake.
not everyone is going to feel that connection. don't tell me i shouldn't.
