She performed in SPITE of her record company & management, who didn't give permission for her performance. RCA, Bob's record company at the time, to avoid litigation (or having to omit Stevie's killer performance), used the "Madame X" billing. (Just like when George Harrison appeared on Cream's Goodbye album as "L'Angelo Mysterioso" and wasn't initially given songwriting credit on "Badge".)
