That's one way to look at it.
Another way to look at it, is that Stevie was genuinely thankful for the way he helped her with those songs.
It may have been hard for her to say those words to him in person, so she wrote her thoughts down and gave him a copy of the album... which included songs that she rightfully acknowledged he had a hand in shaping... in the hopes of making amends.
(I'm basing these comments on what Stevie says she wrote in that note: a thank-you to him for being there as she wrote most of the 'Bella Donna' songs, and for helping her to craft them.)
