I don't know how good their monitors on stage were in those days, if even EXISTENT. I've talked with older players, who've told me you didn't HAVE monitors back then. So who knows? If you've ever tried to sing above the din of a loud band, and tried to hear pitch without monitors, it's very easy to get off(pitch, that is! ).
That might explain our Queen being off.
