Interestingly, I heard Patti Lupone was initially approached for the "new" revivial currently running on Broadway. She declined saying her voice could not take it anymore at her age. This was sad to me because talk about a belter - I saw her in Evita and she gave me two bruises and welp when she first beleted!!!!!!
Patti would have eaten that role alive in her younger days!
Bernadette is okay in the role in that her voice is textbook perfect, etc. But, IMO and although I LOVE her, she is just wrong for the role. But, she has made a hit of it - so more power to her.
