Well, I don't know who else he is dated, but maybe even though he manipulated Stevie quite a bit, the way she tells it, maybe she was still the strongest person he's ever been with.
She didn't exactly dump him, but stood up to him, at least from that story she tells about when he was hanging around distracting her bandmates and being a jerk and she finally put her foot down.
Maybe he doesn't like publicly remembering their time together because she made him feel weak, small, less than in control. She didn't feel like she was the dominant one in that relationship, but maybe he did.
