One degree of separation- my band opens for Waddy

The new bio on Waddy triggered me on this one...

TRUE STORY!!

My band had a gig in Hollywood on a recent Friday night. Earlier in the day, I got a call my fellow band-mate-chick telling me that Waddy's opening band for his gig at the Palladino in the Valley backed out on him. Our drumer is the drummer for said band, and he mentioned OUR band as a replacement for the opening act. OF COURSE, we accepted!!

My band's gig finished at 9:15 and we had to be in the valley by 9:30!!! We jammed over there, set up our crap and played for a half an hour.

I'm a big chicken-****, so even though I was unpacking my guitar in the same small room where Waddy and his lead singer (I can't remember her name, but she does a killer "Nutbush City") were eating pizza, I didn't have the nerve to introduce myself.

"Uh, hi Waddy.... uh, I, uh, think you're an awesome guitar player and, uh, I've seen you play so many times with Stevie, and , uh........"

DUH!!!!

I just couldn't do it. I'm not that cool.

However, we played our set- then Waddy came out and ripped the roof off the joint. He ended up being really nice to our band, thanking us for filling in at the last minute.

While I am a chicken ****, my fellow band-mate is not. After I left, she ended up talking to Waddy for some time. She said he's a really nice guy.

I hate name-dropping, but since Marty just did the whole Waddy bio, I thought I'd share this ONE degree of separation from Lindsey and Stevie.

What the hell, ya know??? :D

Thanks Tower, great anecdote!

lol name dropping is good - it means we can imagine ourselves in your shoes! What a terrific story. Is this Waddy the man about town or what??

Waddy plays around the L.A area all the time with his band at "little" venues. A coupla weeks ago, he played BB King's Blue Club in Universal City. Y'all should go check him out- his band is LOUD!!! And they kick ass, too!

I JUST tried to see Waddy's band in LA...

They play at "The Joint" on Pico Blvd. every Monday night - I was in LA for New Year's Eve and made sure I was there just so I could see Waddy. Well, when we got there, the bartender informed us that they had cancelled at the last minute. Too bad, that place is tiny and seeing the Wad-ster there would have ROCKED!
