Happy Thanksgiving back at ya Arlene.

I got a great tip from a client yesterday -- baking the sweet potatoes (instead of boiling them) to cook them. You gotta wrap them in foil, so they don't disintegrate on the oven rack. I tried it this morning...by George it works! And the peels just slide off.

Anybody got an idea or recipe to share?

Eww! Sweet potatoes...the smell of em makes me yack!

ANYWAY...when i was in NZ last year, my flatmates and I cooked turkey even though dont celebrate Thanksgiving there. I told them since everything was upside down in NZ, we should cook the turkey upside down...which we did, and it was the juiciest turkey I've ever had!

BUAAAAHHH!!!!
I was going to be in Miami for Thanksgiving. I like that holiday (and the shopping), and have beautiful memories..
My first one was in Miami, 1990, visiting my best female friend, it was very special. Then I've been in 1997, in NYC (when I see for the first and only time Fleetwood Mac at the Reunion tour in Madison Square Garden!!!), and have been also in 2005, NJ.

I had planned to travel tomorrow, to spend Tksgiving in Miami again.. but at work they set this week for the ISO 9001 certification and I HAVE TO BE HERE.. grr... so I posponed a week my trip.. :(

Happy Thanksgiving Arlene and everybody else on this site-whether you live in America or not. Have a safe, enjoyable day and eat to your hearts content. And the next day, shop till you drop.

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and get to enjoy the day with someone special...even if it's just you.

I have an awesome secret recipie that I'm going to share. It makes a great dessert and people are going to be like, "wow...this is awesome! it must have taken you forever!" haha

Anyway,

Spray a glass baking pan with Pam.

Sprinkle some vanilla, yellow or white cake mix blended together with some graham cracker crumbs on to the bottom of the baking dish making a small layer.

Take some canned peaches or frozen strawberries (with syrup) or canned cherry pie filling. I use all 3.

If you're going to use just 1 fruit...say the peaches...take the peaches out of the juice and make a layer of peaches on top of the cake/graham mixure. Sprinkle a little ground cinnamon on top of the fruit layer.

Make another layer on top of the peaches with the cake/graham mixure...followed by another layer of peaches...sprinkle the cinnamon...

Repeat until you get to the top and make sure the top is the layer of the cake/graham mixure.

Drizzle onto the top layer the fruit syrup from the canned peaches.

Sprinkle a little more mixture of the cake/graham.

Melt about 3/4 of a stick of butter or margarine and drizzle that on top.

Finally, another quick thin layer of the cake/graham mixture.

Bake for about an hour on 350 or until it's nice and brown.

Serve with ice cream or whipped cream. Of course my fat ass likes both!

***If you're going to use all 3 fruits I sometimes mix them all together with the juices from each and start making the layers or layer 1 fruit at a time.

***Just a heads up...the cherry one is a little hard to make if you're going to use cherries exclusively only because it's a little hard to spread on top of the mixture but, it's very do-able. You'll see what I mean.

There you have a nice cobbler in a few easy steps that looks like you devoted a lot of time to it.

Jim

PS...it's sooo good.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for not having to work at Shop-Rite. I get hired as a grocery store service clerk, and they make me start working on the same week as Thanksgiving. Sadistic bastards!
