Book Recommendation
I don't know whether you guys read criticism for fun & frolic, but Stanley Kauffmann's "Persons of the Drama: Theater Criticism & Comment" makes for excellent toilet reading or bedtime reading.
Kauffmann's command of English makes for clean, clear, direct prose, much of it masterfully constructed. He himself comes through his criticism as urbane, gentlemanly, ever-so-carefully skeptical, & knowledgeable. He is blessedly free of cant & the temporary odors of fashion. I think Stanley's theater reviews as a whole are the most distinguished & readable since Mary McCarthy's.
If you can find a used copy, grab it. I think you'll really enjoy it.
