Friend is still playing!

I did my grocery shopping this morning & I heard "Friend" in the store! It still must be getting played. I wasn't exactly in the greatest mood to start out, but it made shopping a total pleasure this morning. :)

Christine was on my local classic rock station (Rock 102) on Wednesday morning giving an interview.

She said that they went into the studio before the inauguration and re-recorded "Don't Stop." Now I'm surprised that this "new" version hasn't been leaked. She also said that they tried desperately to get her to perform Don't Stop with them in England, but she didn't want to. Then she said that they put on a great show and that she felt proud to have been in the band.

Hmm....well, perhaps in the future it will be. Maybe not a lot of people were aware of this? She's trying to seperate herself from the band in a retirement sense. I have a feeling that had she performed with them that night, she may have gotten nostalgic and had some regrets about no longer being in the band which is what she didn't want to do. JMO, of course.

I don't think she was afraid that she'd feel nostalgic about performing again. She's mentioned in several interviews that it had just been too many years since she'd played live. I don't think she felt comfortable doing it. She's also mentioned that when she saw them perform again she knew she'd made the right decision, didn't miss it at all & was happy with her decision.

This is something that I don't understand. I'd never heard that they recorded another version of "Don't Stop" until she mentioned it in several interviews this year. When they performed "Don't Stop" at the inauguration, they did do it live. I wonder why they felt they needed to re-record "Don't Stop" prior to doing it at the inauguration.

Perhaps they re-recorded it, fearing that some rights issue or something would prevent the original recording from being re-released as a single? Doesn't seem likely that that would be the case, but who knows?

I've checked my "Don't Stop" cassette single from '93 though, and it's definitely the original 'Rumours' album version.

I wonder if all five members took part in the re-recording.

Maybe they were going to lip-synch a "live sounding" version of the song.

Christine's struggles with acid-reflux disease are legendary!

You're too cute, Curtis.
I wasn't bashing Ashlee... they've ALL lip-synched or used backing tracks at one time or another. Ashlee just made the mistake of claiming she'd never do it, and then blaming her hapless band when it was proven she had.

She still has an infinitely better voice than her sister, and I've liked the couple singles I've heard. :)

'Sides, I thought it was common knowledge that Britney lip-synchs most of the time?

She does, but I guess it is okay because she shows her tits and bends over so her ass hangs out.

NicksIllume 01-02-2005 06:42 PM

Ew...B.S. mentioned in a C.McVie thread. Where's the throwing up icon?

I adore Friend, but I haven't heard it on the radio or anywhere. I'll have to start requesting it. ;) When I watch LIB, I do not watch Don't Stop. I cannot do it.

I think it's just that Britney has never gone on record as saying, "I do not lip-synch and never will," before she got up on stage and did exactly that... so people haven't made as big of a deal about it.

Though the trampy persona probably helps! ;)
