Do you like how Mirage CD sounds?

I have the (american) Mirage CD. I think I bought it circa 1991. But it sounds very low. The sharp sounds are not enough high, and the whole sound is far low from the average volume. I always have to set higher the stereo volume.

Its´ the same with Stand Back from the Enchanted CD. Just with this song. However Stand Back from Timespace (an european cd) sounds very good. It's easy to hear the difference.

I got one of those 80s collection from the "call now" ads. Stand Back is included, and again.. it sounds very low. Exactly like the Enchanted edition.

But it is with Mirage when I can hear the biggest difference. Gypsy, Little Lies, or other songs sound far better in the "Very best" cd or the box sets

Do you have the same perception?

I don't have Mirage, but I noticed similar things with others. It drives me nuts. Stand back (live) on chain box set is veeery low. The variations bug me. Of course it makes sense that the newest releases should sound better and better. I'm suprised the Enchanted edition is like that (I had enchanted but sold it, havent repurchased) but I remember when i wanted to hear Stand Back, I wouldn't use Enchanted, but Timespace. Anywhoo...

Yeah, makes sense. But it's funny I remember I listened Mirage vynil album in 1982 and the sound was awesome, really AWESOME!!!

I remember a friend got it, so I taped Gypsy, Can't go back and Little Lies from the album. Even that old cassette (a chrome TDK) of mine still sounds beautiful and far better than the cd I got years later (of course excluding the usual background tape sound)

The sound on the 'Mirage' CD is atrocious.

That album is in dire need of remastering... and SOON.

Mirage should come to life when it's remasterd.

I remember how Hold me used to jump out on the record album. I hope they do that and Tango soon.

Along with BWelch....shall i continue?

Yay! If you want to check the "Producer" thread I was much more effervescent with my wishes. That's great you're having a party, and you have a lot of friends n' stuff. Yeah, Monday does suck. Mine is Wed. coming up. I'm just taking a long fourth weekend, and will have to celebrate then. Do you like being a Cancer? or you don't care?

This has nothing to do with Mirage, but.....on my Wild Heart cd, Stand Back sounds terrible. The sound is waay low and it''s off somehow. Just thought I'd add that as you were talking about SB before.

I notice that Mirage the US CD has very poor sound quality as if it were mastered at the lowest volume possible and if you try and crank it up, a electronic hum or chirp is vaguely present throughout the disc. I have dear wonderful friends who went overseas last year and brought me back an import which is definitely an improvement! But I would love a remastered Mirage as it is my favorite album and to see some b-sides like Cool Water and demos like If You Were My Love would make me a happy camper! :blob2: :blob1: :blob2: :blob1:

Am I missing something? I could swear Stand Back isn't on Enchanted. Don't make me check.

It is on disc one. How could it not be? It is like her biggest solo song of all time.

Well nowadays you have ProTools and all these fancy recording programs to remaster recordings. In the case of Mirage and the Live album, etc...they didn't have limiters like they do now. Now what they do it just clean up the mix using the original tracks, and then throw a limiter (usually of minus 1 db) below the distortion rate to bring up the volume. I never did this when I was mixing in the studio as you tend to lose some of the peaks in the wav forms. At any rate, anything that has NOT been remastered for CD tends to have this "low" volume problem. Listen to "The Chain" on the regular 1990 issue of Rumours and listen to it on the new remastered version. Drastic difference.

Yes, I think so, too. I was used to hearing the version of Stand Back that's on Enchanted, and when I got the CD of The Wild Heart and listened to Stand Back, I went "WTF?"

Now, I've gotten used to hearing the live FM bootlegs of Stand Back from this tour, and they blow the studio version out of the water. Stevie sounds so energized when she performs it with the Mac. Amazing.

But, none of this has anything to do with the subject of the thread. :)

I don't have the CD of Mirage, but one of the negative things I've heard about it is that the sound quality is really bad. So, I've always avoided buying it. Maybe when/if the remaster it, I'll pick it up.
