Please help...who the hell am I thinking of?

I heard a snippet of a song on the radio today that I haven't heard for a while and I'm going mad trying to work out who the singer is/what the song is. I now don't have any tune or lyrics in my head and its driving me mad.
The song is really evocative of my childhood and I'm thinking it was released in either 1980 or 1981 (possibly 82 at a push).
The song is by a guy with a really amazing voice. He sounds like a woman. I know there's a music video; all I can remember is this chap spends most of the song looking into a mirror- possibly in a theatre dressing room. There might be a woman later on sat next to him, but I'm not sure.
Its a British person and I think probably a UK one hit wonder.

Has anyone any idea in the slightest who on Earth I'm talking about? Its killing me trying to work it out. I have the song on the tip of my tongue but I cant quite get it.

Not sure if it's included but you might check out this list (with links) of early 80's videos:

Any luck yet?

Check out Pia Zadora's Rock It Out video.
You'll forget about the song you're looking for.

Okay, emergency over. It just suddenly came to me this afternoon. Its funny how you can rack your brain trying to think of something and then, when you're doing the most random of things it can just pop into your head (in my case it was while I was building me a new garden table this afternoon).

The song is called 'I Wont Let You Down' by a band called PH D...

As I say, it just reminds me so much of my childhood. Love the singers voice.

Cheers all :woohoo:

I didn't know this version of this song, but incidentally a famous italian singer-songwriter named Zucchero released a cover of it sung half in Italian and half in English in the late 80s and it remained a radio staple for years, so it reminds me a lot of my own childhood too (me and my family used to listen to his album when we went to vacation together):

Oh cool. Thanks for letting me know. Rather bigger production values and a, er, rather interesting video.
I remember Zucchero... at least, I remember Senza Una Donna with Paul Young.

Oh my, that first video cracks me up.

This one's not much better

I dimly remember that song. I'm not so sure about some of the keyboards, though.. music seemed much more important back them , somehow.

Remember the good old 1980s
When things were so uncomplicated
I wish I could go back there again
And everything could be the same
