French and Saunders Fleetwood Mac

I don't know whether this has been posted before...
I'm not generally a big fan of French and Saunders but I just came across this on UK Gold; originally 1993 I think...

Quite funny.

I'm ashamed, but in the beginning I thought that was the real Mick.

[This is an excerpt from an article about rock music being converted into lullabyes. I know babies can't understand words, but I'm not sure I want to play them GDW in the crib]

The latest band to be immortalized in nurseries everywhere is Fleetwood Mac. It was released Feb. 10 and it features relaxing lullaby arrangements of “Rhiannon,” “Gold Dust Woman,” “Go Your Own Way” and other chart toppers.

Quite funny.

At first I was thinking "what the heck?" Then when Christine fell over I started howling with laughter.

Old interview with Annie Leibovitz from 1984:
Quote:

I learned something from Richard Avedon. He did a shooting with Fleetwood Mac for the cover of Rolling Stone and he had said it was the worst session he had ever had in his life, they were the rudest people, they wouldn’t sit long enough. Then I saw the picture, and it was a great picture. I learned there was no reason not to get a great picture, you’re a professional.

[Scott Martin of Boyfrndz mentions FM in an interview]

Q. I saw that you went to Fleetwood Mac with your dad. How was that?

It was amazing, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life. We’re huge fans of the Mac. We both really like their catalog and they played fantastically. My dad and I were running back and forth to the men’s room to rip a bowl, but there was one moment where the band started playing “Rhiannon,” which was one of the songs we wanted to hear. He got flustered and ran into the bathroom, dropped the pipe and it broke on the bathroom floor. So he scooped up all the pieces and the little bowl was still intact, so he ripped it from the broken glass end. Then we went on with our evening.

There are pictures of FM starting at #17 of this slide show.

There are three FM picture pages altogether, going back to the sixties and up to the nineties.

Sounds more like crack than marijuana.

[Excerpts from a Salon article on battling drug addiction]

Sunday, Apr 5, 2015 05:00 PM PDT by Ashley Zlatopolsky , Salon

http://www.salon.com/2015/04/06/my_r...n_and_halcion/

My road to hell was paved with Xanax (and Klonopin, and Ativan, and Halcion)

The pills were a release from my crushing anxiety. But the more I took, the more I struggled with a new pain

The Rolling Stones’ “Beggars Banquet” and “Let It Bleed” were the soundtracks to my addictions. I’d play the two records over and over, downing pills with a bottle of wine. Sometimes I’d get so high that the record would skip for an hour and I wouldn’t even notice. In rare moments of hopefulness, I’d listen to Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours.” I found Fleetwood Mac, especially Stevie Nicks, to be highly inspirational when nothing in my own life inspired me. Nicks conquered a Klonopin addiction, and though she didn’t write “Don’t Stop” (Christine McVie did), the lyrics convinced me, however temporarily, that maybe one day I could conquer my own addiction, too. I’d play the song over and over, dreaming of a day with no anxiety and no pills.

“Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow / don’t stop, it’ll soon be here / it’ll be better than before / yesterday’s gone, yesterday’s gone…”

* * *

Stevie Nicks said getting clean from her Klonopin addiction was like somebody opening up a door and pushing her into hell, but what she forgot to mention is that getting clean from a Klonopin (in my case, Klonopin, Xanax, Ambien, Ativan and Halcion) addiction is like somebody opening up a door, pushing you into hell, locking you in, and throwing away the key with a smirk. You become disassociated from everything real, tinkering on the edge of insanity as depression and anxiety creep up behind you and dare to push you over the edge.

George Ezra Talks "Budapest," Fleetwood Mac, Drunken Nights And The 'Wanted On Voyage' Connection To Paddington Bear [Exclusive Interview]

Besides your own, what albums would you pack away on your voyage?
There are some albums that I consider masterpieces, very few, but there are one or two, like Paul Simon’s Graceland or Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. I’d have to have a Tom Waits album in there somewhere.

Quiz: Songs With Women's Names In The Title

Let's face it: music would suck if women stopped breaking men's hearts.
Women are the subjects behind countless ballads in every genre; we find ourselves singing about women every time we turn on the radio.

Some artists shamelessly reveal the inspiration behind a song--or entire album (like Robin Thicke's Paula), while other musicians conceal their muse behind a phony name. Eric Clapton famously wrote his song "Layla" about Pattie Boyd, the wife of friend George Harrison.

Inventing a character is common too: Courtney Love worked with Billy Corgan and Linda Perry to create "Samantha," a rock ballad about a self-destructive woman. Love's motive: to create a song as popular as Sting's "Roxanne" or Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon."

Now it's time to test your music knowledge: can you ID these songs with women's names in their titles? Good luck; the answers are on page four. If you answer more than 10 correctly, feel free to brag in the comment section below.

14. Both Fleetwood Mac and Bob Dylan have a song named _______.

A. Lola
B. Sara
C. Rebecca

Peaked at #11: Iconic Pop Hits That Missed the Top 10 by One Notch

Rhiannon Fleetwood Mac, 1976
Inspired by the legend of a Welsh witch, it took Stevie Nicks ten minutes to write Rhiannon in Malibu in 1974, three months before joining Fleetwood Mac. Rolling Stone lists it at #488 in the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Fleetwood Mac's next single Say You Love Me also peaked at #11.

Edge of Seventeen Stevie Nicks 1982
Bella Donna established Stevie Nicks as a solo superstar and this iconic rocker with its chugging 16th note guitar riffs and its white winged dove symbolism is a big reason why - so why didn't this take full flight into the Top 10? Who knows - all we know is we love it.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Bleachers' Jack Antonoff's "All in on Everything"

You've been nailing some covers on your tour. It must be a cool exercise figuring out which songs you can add something to or simply do justice, right?
I'm always messing around with covers. We did Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More," The Cranberries' "Dreams," and Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way." You're just trying to find a cool way to add something to it that sounds like our sound.
