GYOW cover on Anoro asthma commercial

I just saw a commercial for Anoro asthma medication and they play a cheesey cover of "Go your own way," during it. Kinda sad seeing FM let their classic song get covered in a cheesey commercial

Do you feel the same way when Stevie sold Landslide and the Mac sold The Chain for commercial use?
Lindsey has made a fortune off Holiday Road. Its been used in several commercials.
Even Everywhere was used in a commercial. The ad you refer to is not even new, its been around for awhile.
I don't see anything wrong with it. Few could turn down a million dollars so that 5 seconds of their song is used in a commercial. Lindsey has probably made more money off Holiday Road than every solo album and solo tours added together over his entire career.
Few have the courage of their convictions like Jim Morrison. In 1969 he turned down $75,000 to allow Light My Fire be used in a commercial. The rest of the Doors protested but Jim wrote the song. In 1969 $75,000 would be over $500,000 today.

Yes I feel the same way about "Landslide" and "The Chain." I understand the reasons why they sold the rights, and it's the songwriter's decision to do what they want with their songs.
I am not a regular television watcher, so I didn't realize the mentioned commercial has been around for a while.
I wasn't trying to offend anybody nor was I trying to put any members of the Mac down for doing what they want with their music.
I just never have liked it when popular songs are turned into commercials. Yes, I know a hit song is basically a commercial to sell the album. But hearing a classic song, sang by a generic commercial singer, turning it into a "jingle" for television/radio commercials just sounds weird to me.

But that is how marketing works. These well known songs are already in our brains. This is why the advertising executives seek out such songs. I heard Gloria Estefan on Howard Stern talk about this exact thing. Some muffin company in Spain wanted to use her conga line in a commercial and paid her over $400,000 to use it.
Easy money ;)

I agree with your sensibilities 100%. I was appalled as well when I heard, "GYOW" on that commercial. You described it perfectly. It was cheesy and lame. I always admired Johnny Cash's family when they refused to allow Preparation H to use "Ring of Fire" in a commercial.

The makers of Anoro must be thrilled at this blog since it was enough to mention the product. See... the advertisement is working ;)

This is not directed any anyone here but its hypocritical times a million when Landslide was used to sell beer the thread about it was everyone loving the commercial.

I loved the pony Everywhere commercial.

I think using "Landslide" to sell beer is terrible IMO.
And good for Johnny Cash's family to say no to Preperation H

Is this a real story? Either way, that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time!!

This got me thinking about other products FM songs could be used for:

Over My Head- Gamblers Anonymous or bankruptcy lawyers

Little Lies- Ashley Madison website

You Make Loving Fun- ointment cream for STDs

Ooh, just thought of another one:

Big Love- for Viagra. Could you imagine this song playing over images of men playing basketball, eating breakfast, jogging, going to work, etc all while in the background we hear Lindsey grunting? Too funny!

I Can't Wait- over active bladder

If Anyone Falls- medic alert

Stop Dragging My Heart Around- blood pressure medicine

I knew I should have went into advertising!

takes on a whole new meaning when you consider Lindsey's description of the song as morphing from being "on the look out FOR love" to being "protecting yourself FROM love"

Asthma? I've "heard" the commercial many times. I assumed they were trying to poop!

I thought the same thing when I first heard it. Then I thought, well Lindsey is making a ton of money. Or maybe someone in his family is using the medication.
