Reeking Insincerity

I was just reading reviews of FM stuff in Q's "Review Reissues" section and although, being very fond of the Mirage album, I don't agree with what Christine said, I do think it's a good way to put it and I think Lindsey would agree with her, as he doesn't like Mirage either.

Mirage, Warners 1982

After Tusk's seeming attempt to sabotage their own career a watertreading live double album, plus solo excursions from Fleetwood, Buckingham and most successfully by far, Nicks (her Bella Donna headed the US album charts in 1981), Mirage marked a return to the Rumours formula. Trouble was it sounded forced and insubstantial by comparison, or as Christine McVie later described, like it was, "reeking of insincerity". The two best moments belong to Nicks and McVie herself for Gypsy and Hold Me respectively, the latter a delightful slice of seduction that effortlessly underlined her pop credentials.

I bet that's not what she said when it was first released. You wonder sometimes whether you can believe anything that's said when an album is first released.

I quite like Mirage - it's not my favourite but I do like it.

It is my second fav..behind Tusk.
While the songs might sound insincere to some,
I think overall they are pretty good quality tunes.
hell, I even halfway enjoy Oh Diane!
(have to be in the right mood though..)

Lyrically I don't think LB and CM were on their best game... Stevie's lyrics to me were great on this album...

Musically I think Mirage is very unique and original.. I think the blends that LB and CM created were kind of amazing...

Lindsey always seemed very proud of the work he did on Gypsy, although other than EOTW I don't care for any of his songs on the album (Can't Go Back and Book of Love are okay) . I think Chris' songs were up to her usual standard. Hold Me is a great song. I also like Wish You Were Here and Love in Store. However Only Over You should never see the light of day ever again! That I'm out of my mind opening drives me out of my mind.

It seems an odd comment coming from Chris. I was under the impression she wasn't to keen on Tusk and the direction that album took.

No one else seems to, but I really love the song Empire State. I love the whole album with the exception of Only Over You and Oh let me go ahead and puke Diane.
