I finally realized what's missing from the Buck/Vie album...
Stevie Nicks!
Hear me out, because I've actually thought about this a lot. See, I couldn't figure out why I was somewhat blase about the album. I like most of the songs a lot, and there's only one I really dislike, but the album just seemed kind of bland, like there was something missing. And then I realized that I kind of had the same issue with Say You Will, which was missing Christine McVie. I don't just mean their voices, I mean their songs. Imagine how much better Say You Will would have been if you took away 4 of Stevie's songs and 4 of Lindsey's, and added 5 of Christine's (from the Buck/Vie album). All of a sudden, Say You Will becomes a masterpiece! I think the Buck/Vie album would have benefited the same way from Stevie's participation, but she declined so they had no choice and proceeded without her. I suppose we FM fans have been spoiled by having three incredible and distinct singer/songwriters on one album several times over several decades, so it's probably unfair to be critical of an album when one of them decides to skip out. But each person brings something so different to the album that when one is gone, it's very noticeable. Like when you order a cheeseburger but they left the cheese off by accident- it might still be ok, but you really notice the cheese is missing. I am not saying the band shouldn't release any more records if all three don't participate. It just took me this long to really understand why I hardly ever listen to Say You Will or Buck/Vie very often. I'm curious if anyone else feels similarly. |
You just figured this out? The sum of 5 is better than the sum of 4 or 2. Of course Say You Will would have been better with Christine. Of course Buck/McVie would have been better with Stevie songs because it would have been a full Mac album.
I don't think anyone would really disagree with you. I think you are stating the obvious ;) |
I've always considered Stevie to be the limburger of FM.
I'm glad we agree. :wavey: |
I still want one last FM album, but BuckVie? I suddenly can't imagine their album with Stevie in it. Not anymore. It's perfect the way it is. The songs, the lyrics, nothing in it fits her. This is a Lindsey/Christine album and I wouldn't change a thing about it. :wavey:

I really love the BuckVie album as it is. I think it's quite fitting to have a Lindsey/Christine album following a Stevie/Lindsey album. Now all we need is a final album from all 5 - I live in hope...
My daughter who is almost 8 is enchanted with the BuckVie, particularly Christine's songs. It's the first album (apart from kid's music) where she's learnt many of the words. She puts it on as soon as we get in the car and loves singing along to it. Just for balance, she also loves the 2nd CD of the Wild Heart Deluxe, which was played often before we had the BuckVie in the car. It's interesting that one of the first album reviews posted on here, suggested IMW was the best song, and yet for me it's the only one that I sometimes skip. Some of the tracks took while to grow on me, and Carnival Begin has become a favourite in the past week. I have started to feel like I've over-listened to the some of the songs, as it's been on repeat in the car for a while now, but I think it's a great upbeat album with an interesting mix of Christine and Lindsey music. |
You could just make a playlist of songs from Say You Will and Buckingham Mcvie and listen to them all together

I would not add Stevie to this album. I would have liked to see the album have more solos; but other than that, I love this album. It's so bright and I am able to listen to it straight though.
It's an excellent piece of music added to their extensive library. |

But I guess after listening to the album so many times you appreciate for what its worth. Its a great album and I too would not change a thing. However if Stevie did join them in the studio we would be bracing for a fantastic project and a complete Mac album. |

I have appreciated how much of a gem this is after about 2 weeks. The concept of the duo. The band songs, the love songs, the coming back songs, I hope Stevie changes her mind and attitude. She could contribute a lot to this team! |

Although each album IS missing something, "Say You Will" is a better album than Buckingham McVie's self titled debut.
