10 celebrity snippets | Who’s getting attention and why

A list of 10 celebirites who are getting the public’s attention and why, from your instant payday loans source.

1. Janet Jackson
After months of silence, Janet Jackson finally has started taking interviews with magazines to talk about how she is coping with her brother’s death. I think much of the hype is being fueled by taking this quote out of context: “It gets sad sometimes because – I don’t know – you think your phone is going to ring and you hear that voice calling your name.” A lot of sensationalists are turning this sentiment about a natural emptiness and longing into making Janet look delusional.

2. Taylor Swift
Most people know the story behind this one. Taylor Swift has been heavily criticized for her performance at the Grammys. Though most of the chatter seems to have died down, plenty of people are still searching for the Taylor Swift Grammy video after the official version was removed from YouTube.

3. James Ray
Remember that guy who led a “sweat lodge retreat” for his cult where three people died? That was “motivational speaker” James Ray, and he is now being charged with three counts of manslaughter. The retreat was held Oct. 8. Here’s the whole story on James Ray.

4. Leif Garrett
Leif Garrett, who started acting at age 5 and was a well-known child actor, was arrested this week for heroin possession. He is developing quite the list of drug charges.

5. Stevie Nicks
Unfortunately for Stevie Nicks, she joined Taylor Swift on the stage during her Grammy performance. I haven’t seen any negative press on Stevie Nicks specifically, but she’s catching some of the spotlight nonetheless.

6. Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood has a lot going on right now. She will sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. The country singer also is starting an acting career after landing a role in “Soul Surfer” with Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt.

7. Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton is on tour, and he’ll be playing Madison Square Garden Feb. 18. Be forewarned, though, tickets to see Eric Clapton start at $65 and go up to more than $3,000.

8. Fleetwood Mac
Internet statistics show that a whole lot of people are looking for information on Fleetwood Mac. So, what happened there? Well, a bunch of teenage Taylor Swift fans saw her perform with Stevie Nicks. They all wondered who this Nicks woman was, hence the No. 5 spot for her. The teeny boppers read about this mysterious, old band Fleetwood Mac, and now they’re seeking information on that. I mean, if Stevie Nicks is down with Taylor, Fleetwood Mac must be cool, right?

9. Black Eyed Peas
They won multiple Grammys, they have tons of hit songs and their world tour started yesterday. People want news, tickets and song downloads, the Black Eyed Peas are one hot topic.

10. Bruce Springsteen
Who dares to defy The Boss? The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, that’s who. The organization filed a lawsuit against a Manhattan bar, Connolly’s Pub & Restaurant, where a live band played two Springsteen songs. The band didn’t have permission to play the songs, but Springsteen says ASCAP didn’t have permission to file the lawsuit. The band being sued performed the songs a year and a half ago. Though Springsteen was listed as a plaintiff in the case, he says he didn’t know anything about it, and even if he had, he still would have had nothing to do with it.

Thanks for sharing! And who said FM/Stevie wouldn't gain any new fans from Stevie's Grammy performance with Taylor Swift? Even if it's indirect, it appears to be happening.

Well, that's one good thing to come out of it because I thought that Grammy performance was truly awful.

I absolutely agree... it wasn't just Taylor who sounded wretched. Stevie totally sidestepped an atomic bomb by sheer luck with the press putting her on a pedestal, while utterly skewering Taylor. Another good thing is the stage is truly set for Stevie and the Mac to be taken seriously by media critics with new material. Let's just hope some of this upward momentum is taken advantage of, though.

I like your thinking. Well said!

There is good attention (like the attention a band gets from putting out a great album) & there is bad -- or at least neutral -- attention. I'm not so sure that this little burst of attention for Stevie is all that valuable or even desirable (unless you're just looking for pictures of Stevie in the entertainment magazines).

Attention like this tends not to last long. Next month's fiasco in the pop music world will easily & completely displace the Stevie-Taylor story. I wish Stevie had gotten this sort of attention for her excellent live DVD last year.
