It might have been Stevie's at one point but it's not the cape from The Wild Heart album cover, outtakes from that photoshoot show that that cape is velvet but with a satin lining and also probably black and not purple:

Well I am glad someone else responded to this because I always thought the cape she wore on the album cover was black or a dark brown. And also I am a little bit color blind when it comes to certain colors. I never thought it was purple though.

The Wild Heart Cape was Black

and she probably keeps everything in her place.

Can we talk about how never-in-a-million years would I have thought she was wearing that top and skirt underneath the cape on the Wild Heart album cover... But look at the cover -- those ARE the same sleeves!

I don't think the Wild Heart cape on the cover was black or brown. No way. Look at the photo. The lighting is dark which makes it look darker but if it was a black cape it would be pure black with the dark lighting. I see it being the dark red/purple color which someone else posted on another photoshoot. A black cape would black her out completely with that kind of lighting. A purple cape in that kind of lighting does look brownish but the lighting has that effect.
The Ebay cape looks like it could be legit.

Clearly someone needs to post more outtake photos for reference. ;)

I just looked at the listing again and the seller has quite a bit of negative feedback within the last 6 months. It looks like you have to pay by check and they don't accept paypal, which means the buyer has no protection if something is wrong. I'd be very wary of this, especially since they're not offering any documentation.

Zoe Howe book states on the cover of The Wild Heart Album the cape is Black....but again maybe its a mistake...

The buyer has a 94% approval on Ebay. The gripes are about payment and not authenticity. There is a link to the buyers store and even the auction lists the source; "Its Only Rock N Roll from 2003."
A look at the seller's store seems to sell legit stuff. But of course there is no way to know for sure. It seems the seller bought many of these items at Rock N Roll auctions, held them and now selling them.

The cape was black according to the 1997 Harper's bazaar interview.

I don't know if they are real or not, but I enjoy the discussion.

I'm just saying to be careful. 94% positive feedback is very poor, in my opinion. I'd never buy from anyone with feedback as low as that and with no buyer protection from paypal or a credit card company. The seller doesn't say that any proof from the prior auction it was purchased from is included, so the history is still unclear, unless someone has an auction catalog or something from back then to verify it. And in the end I'm just really skeptical of the fact that it's purple.
