RIP Eddy Q.
Just saw that Eddy passed away.

So sad. He winked at me during Christine's solo tour
He wrote some great songs with Chris and is inspiration for one of the best Mac songs ever... Nights in Estoril Please don't everyone flame Christine for not posting to social media. She does not do that. People don't have to constantly wear their feelings publicly with the world. From the web: BLITZ - Eddy Quintela, the Portuguese from Fleetwood Mac, died Songwriter, keyboardist and composer of Portuguese origin, Eddy Quintela was also the second husband of Christine McVie, a key element in the formation of Fleetwood Mac. For the North American band, Quintela composed with McVie numerous songs between the years 1987 and 1997 Among them is the hit "Little Lies" from the album Tango in the Night, released in 1987. The hit helped this LP to become the second best seller in Mac Fleetwood's entire career. They divorced in 2003, but continued to collaborate on Christine McVie's solo album, published the following year. One of Eddy Quintela's themes for the American band, “Nights in Estoril”, alludes to the couple's passage in Portugal, where the musician established several connections, namely in the Cascais line, with Marita Leon (with whom he maintained a musical project in the decade 1990) and Fernando Cunha dos Delfins. The song would be published on Fleetwood Mac's Time album, which came out in 1995. In an interview with the British newspaper Guardian, McVie would say, however, "he was not happy in love". |
Sad news.
But that wording....'the Portuguese from Fleetwood Mac'.... |

PLEASE let Portugal have its pride. He co-wrote one of the Mac's biggest hits. He was married to the most fabulous Mac member. Marriage does come with equal rights you know. Let him shine in all his glory. You cannot translate languages word by word. Clearly in the translation, it hinted he was a member. Its also something that makes him more relevant for those in Portugal to know who he was and the impact he had on the band. Chris was on fire during the Tango sessions and he was the reason why. Credit where credit is due! And now for my long distance dedication. May you rest in peace Eddy. It was a pleasure to watch you play and thank you for giving Christine some great years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urPCQpj28wk |
'They divorced in 2003, but continued to collaborate on Christine McVie's solo album, published the following year'
Hmmm. He was well in the past when she recorded the album. The songs had already been written- they weren't still collaborating. Sad for any family he had. He made Chris very happy for a significant period of time. However, I think their split was very acrimonious so I wouldn't blame her if she chooses not to pass comment. |

that's what you got from my post? I was simply commenting on the awkwardness of the translation into English. I know how it is said in Portuguese, but in English it'd be something like "the Portuguese songwriter" who was married to Christine McVie. In English the wording "The Portuguese" just sounds harsh. Like something your uncle who doesn't like foreigners would say. I wasn't even going to address the part where they make him sound like he was actually a member of the band. I mean, if he was, then so was everyone else's spouse or partner. History seems to show that Chris didn't necessarily have the best record when picking men. |
As i recall he was around 10 years younger than she .I wonder what the cause of death was.

Looking back at the songs Christine and Eddy wrote:
Tango in the Night (1987)
Greatest Hits (1988)
Behind the Mask (1990)
25 Years - The Chain (1992)
Time (1995)
The Dance (1997)
In the Meantime (2004)

He's worth two threads. No worries. :wavey:

Just now seeing this. Condolences to his family and friends.
Some of their collaborations are among my very favorites of Christine's songs. I have a soft spot for "Temporary One" especially, because of my warm memories of watching The Dance premiere. "As Long as You Follow" is as good of a love song as she ever recorded. |

The BLITZ obit is nice but is slightly inaccurate: Christine and Eddie did not continue to collaborate after they broke up. The only reason his name is on one co-write on ITM is because that’s an older song they wrote in the 90s. (There’s an old thread somewhere on these pages documenting her publishing up to 2000, featuring some songs we still have not yet heard.)
Their acrimonious break up seemed pretty darn final. In fact, in a 2017 interview, Christine winces when an interviewer cites Eddie as the co-writer of “Little Lies,” and then she denies he had any real involvement. She claimed Lindsey helped her with it. Period. How much did Eddy contribute to any of “their” songs? Did any of the song ideas begin with him? |
Quote:
Even if he did contribute more, I doubt she'd give that to him. Hell, she wouldn't even try to save her musical collaborator of 43 years. I doubt she'd even help Mick. |

I wish she'd managed to blink an eyelid over Lindsey getting fired, though. But I guess her Superwoman powers just ain't what they used to be. |

I’m wondering if Songbird was written for Hurricane Katrina. |

43 years?!? He was out of the band for ten years, she was out of the band for sixteen, and there were extended breaks. It was maybe a third of that. And, she DID help Mick, to the tune if $50,000 in 1984 money. Christine was never going to side with Lindsey over Mick or John. She’s been financially linked to the band for all but one year of its existence. Did you see that making of “In The Meantime” video? She had the pictures of Mick and John from like 1976 listening to music hanging on her walls. |

The other side of it was that Stevie and Lindsey were fighting all the way since 2003. (and a lot during the Dance Tour) I remember Christine mentioning that she did get sick of that tension as they grew older. There had to be some relief she didn't have to be in the middle anymore. It just sucks that Stevie didn't just go have her solo career. But, I think that might hurt her in some ways. And sales wise hurt the band. |

I have this mental image of Stevie and Mick being at their wits end during that November meeting and Azoff asking Stevie, after everyone went home, what Mike Campbell‘s been up to lately. Quote:

I have to get around to reading Love That Burns.

BULLSH*T. Gone on without her???? What, as the $tevie Nix Fleetwood Mac Fajita Roundup? With her as the only "singer"? There's no way that would have happened. Getting Christine back is what allowed that old bat's coup of FM. |
We have strayed a long way from Eddy Q!
But then he strayed, so fair is fair. |

The joke is on me. I knew that Christine’s return would change the equation. I thought Christine returning would make it 2 against 1. I thought it would help Lindsey. Now here I sit, a fool no more. |
For the record, I HATE being called Daddy, and won't allow it to happen.:D

I feel like a fool, because it never occurred to me that that old bi*ch could hate Lindsey so much that $he'd orchestrate this. $he's CONNIVING. While the rest of the world was rejoicing that we had all five back together again, $he was only using it for leverage to break up the five fireflies. I hate. Her guts. I hate her guts. I used to love her, but now I hate her. $tevie Nicks is the worst thing that ever happened to Fleetwood Mac. |
