Original Red Rover Lyrics...

Back before SYW came out, someone on the ledge posted lyrics for Lindsey's "soon to be released" album, GOS. In the thread were lyrics to Red Rover that went as followed...

When you're lonely
Just come on over
We may not be lovers
But you can always take me over
Under the covers
Let's play Red Rover

Makes me laugh at Lindsey's answer "it's about the God's looking down on us..." etc. etc. (but of course, he's always had those stock answers so he can dance around the actual meanings to his songs a la Peacekeeper) ;) Why do you think he changed the lyrics to not include this particular verse? Do you think he should have left them in the song? This is me trying to get the Lindsey board going...c'mon guys! Discuss!

I never saw that post!

WHAT?! I never saw this post! Maybe it was before I became a fan, I dunno.

That doesn't even sing well with the melody of Red Rover. LMAO!!

Well Christy, dear! There you are! I kind of figured this thread would be comprised of me...you...and me and you

I suppose this was back in 2000...perhaps before that... when everything started to leak out about GOS. Maybe for once he had lyrics before he had a melody

Here am I! LOL

Yep, I found Mr. Buckingham in March 2001, so that was before my time.

That's totally weird if those really are the original lyrics, because I associate Red Rover with death not sex!

I would say that perhaps Lindsey equates sex with death but hey, I'm thinkin' probably not...unless it's because sex gets him in trouble..lol

I just think it's hysterical how he can write lyrics like this and lyrics to Peacekeeper and say they're about one thing in one interview then give an entirely different meaning in a different interview with various philosophical ramblings. Lindsey will always keep us guessing

Sigh....

I remember hearing about these lyrics back in 2000. Someone leaked these as well as some of the lyrics to "Try for the Sun." It was right before Lindsey's demos started showing up on Ebay for ludicrous amounts. It was the first I had heard of either.

These are obviously highly sexual, lol. Unless somebody made these up back in 2000 and they were never really his lyrics, Lindsey's song definitely took a different direction, lol!

And hey, a man's orgasm is known as the "little death" in French, right? lol

I hate to get too philosophical here, but let's just say that lyrics with sexual content are not necessarily exclusive of spirituality and allusions to godliness. Going back many centuries, and we're talking BC here, the sexual union was considered by some a sacred rite, a means to reach a kind of spirituality that was otherwise elusive. If you will, to simplify it in nearly sacrilegious terms, people would experience sexual climax in order to know god.

Whether Lindsey was writing some of this stuff in that vein is impossible to know unless he comes right out and says it. His explanations about gods looking down on humanity in reference to ambiguous lyrics have given me pause at times. And after a while I started to wonder if he was reaching for that theme. Lines like "love is the sweet surprise," which may seem somewhat enigmatic on the surface, may actually have much deeper meaning.

It is clear that Lindsey is into poetry and philosophy, judging from some of his more recent work, so it is not so far-fetched that he is infusing some of his work with hints at these more obscure beliefs.

Then again, maybe not.

Dude, don't make me laugh out loud like this. My co-workers are beginning to think I'm strange... OK, I lie. They already do.

You guys don't have to feel like you're missing anything. As far as I know, these lyrics were never recorded :wavey:
