I love, love, love this album. Poor Danny -- what a genius. His guitar playing, singing, and grasp of melody were topnotch. His only weakness was in writing lyrics. If he had teamed up to co-write songs with someone who could write great lyrics, he could have produced the greatest songs of the rock 'n' roll era.

He was never a blues musician. He played in a blues band when he joined Fleetwood Mac but it was his influence that guided them away from pure blues.

I have never had a problem with Christine's vocals on this album. "Homeward Bound," in particular, is a rocker, and she sings it with a rocker's voice. I love the song. Everything about it is perfect -- the piano, the guitar. I have wished a thousand times that Christine's piano continued to be featured this prominently in FM's later albums.

In response to the original post, I think the flute-like instrument on "The Ghost" is a type of organ. I think I have heard it was a melodeon, although now I can't remember where I learned that. By the way, the bass on that song is one of John McVie's finest moments.

I wish there could be a re-issue of this, with "Trinity" included, but it seems apparent no one is interested in re-issuing the Welch era albums. Too bad. There are some of us who like this era of the band the best.

Here's my BT playlist

Child Of Mine
The Ghost
Homeward Bound
Sunny Side of Heaven
-
Bare Trees (w/ Danny's Chant intro)
Sentimental Lady
Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
Trinity
Dust

I have no idea why it wasn't. It doesn't sound like it was from the Bare Trees sessions, however, despite what the cd liner notes say. The sound of the mix resembles the Future Games sessions. And the slide guitar in parts makes me think maybe it was one of the last things Spencer contributed?

Whatever the case, it should have gone on Bare Trees.

Mine is:

Child of Mine
The Ghost
Spare Me a Little
Trinity
Sunny Side of Heaven

Bare Trees
Sentimental Lady
Danny's Chant
Homeward Bound
Dust

I always thought Spare Me sounded better among the songs on side one...and the ending of Homeward Bound leads organically into Dust.

I like this very much. I also thought Trinity should have replaced that poem. Dust is one of my favorites off of BT and never thought of it as an album closer but it sure works for me!

Would it fit on an LP without removing any of the existing tracks? Also, I agree. It would have kicked the album up an even higher notch.

Yes, it's possible it just didn't fit. I would have insisted on making room for it though- whatever it took. There are several songs on Bare Tress that really don't need to be as long as they are. As much as I love Child of Mine you could almost cut the song in half without losing too much of its integrity. Also, Danny's Chant- more than three minutes long???

I'd shave time off Child of Mine and Danny's Chant and done without Thought's on a Grey Day. A shortened Danny's Chant would then have taken the position of the albums curious musical folly (but with genuine musical merit).
