New Sheryl Crow song with Stevie Nicks & Maren Morris out on 6/5

This was posted on Sheryl's fb page this morning

NEW! Out this Wednesday June 5 - my next single from my upcoming album Threads is “Prove You Wrong” and features the legendary Stevie Nicks and the incredible Maren Morris!

Stevie exudes art, she is at all times authentic. She’s the sister I don’t see enough, but she never leaves my heart. I invited Maren to perform on “Prove You Wrong” with Stevie and I because she belongs in our “club” of strong female rockers who tell it like it is.

Waddy Wachtel guests on guitar & makes “Prove You Wrong” rock properly, and my good friends Vince Gill and Joe Walsh also play on the track - can't wait for you to hear it!

Wait... Stevie and Joe Walsh are on the same track?

Jondalar 06-04-2019 03:25 PM

Why didn’t Sheryl do a duet with Miley Cyrus, a true legend?

Fannymac 06-04-2019 05:00 PM

Wow.....she just released the song with Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples last week!
At this rate, most of the tracks will be out as "singles" by the time the album gets released on August 30th!

It's very country, and Stevie is using her TFFT voice. I don't hate it, but definitely won't be a favourite.

Total filler. A repetitive song & complete waste of Stevie

I thought it was fun. As usual, I like the things everyone else hates, lol.

kak125 06-05-2019 10:41 AM

i thought the song was pretty good. catchy little tune.

Jondalar 06-05-2019 11:58 AM

I can’t even hear Stevie on the track. I’m sure that is on purpose.

SisterNightroad 06-05-2019 03:19 PM

I like this song, it has a nice summery sound and it's good to hear Stevie using her lower register towards the end.

Jondalar 06-05-2019 03:28 PM

Ok this sounds like a Linda Rondstadt song - very poor, poor pitiful me.

I love it......I think it’s catchy and a great sing along song.I think they did a nice job blending the 3 voices.

BombaySapphire3 06-05-2019 08:12 PM

I agree kind of filler and a throw away but not terrible. Sheryl peaked as a writer over 20 years ago.

stevierocks87 06-05-2019 08:26 PM

I was just thinking about her first 3 albums or so and how this was the same songwriter. Totally agree.

I think Sheryl’s last really good album was 2008 Detours, which was very political. After that, she has been hit or miss but there has not been the consistent quality throughout the albums. Feels Like Home was decent but felt like she was trying to be country.

gypsy333 06-10-2019 08:51 AM

I actually liked it also...kind of catchy..

sue 06-10-2019 12:00 PM

I notice that Sheryl is appearing on The Graham Norton show, (BBC UK) on Friday 14th.
As Stevie is in Europe by then.....maybe she’ll join her to performe the new release.

Singing live with Sheryl...maybe.

Saw this on the Billboard website today.

Sheryl Crow's "Prove You Wrong," featuring Stevie Nicks and Morris, enters Country Airplay at No. 33 (5.2 million in radio reach). Crow collects her 11th appearance and highest start, while Nicks makes her first appearance. Nicks boasts one entry on Hot Country Songs: "After the Glitter Fades" reached No. 70 (and No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100) in 1982.

She sings the second verse.

If Jondalar can't recognize Stevie's "oooh" when he hears it, then I don't really know what to say. It's been ingrained in my own brain since I was on the EO17.

I had always that that Leather and Lace charted on the Billboard country chart as well.. It was a much bigger pop hit. I just can't get into Prove You Wrong .I could only listen to it once.I cannot stop listening to Tanya Tucker's new song from her upcoming album which is mostly written by Brandi Carlile. It is called The Wheels of Laredo and is so raw, poetic and atmospheric that it give me chills
..everything that Prove You Wrong is lacking.

This is more in the vein of a Gretchen Wilson, 'Redneck Woman' song. Great for drunk girls at country music fests. But not completely horrible. Just too repetitive.

My post disappeared when the site went offline, so here it goes again. I would like the song more if it were just two of them, preferably Sheryl with Stevie. i guess they needed Maren for Country support. I always feel when there are more than two artists on a track they have to squeeze them all in somehow. I also feel it could be 20-30 seconds shorter as it's too repetitive.

It's a catchy song, I love Sheryl and Stevie together..I can understand you don't hear her on the track because I remember you missing both S&L on magnet and steel lol

Yess! Tanya deserves her due, she was a true rebel in country music and she has feeling in every song she sings! I like the raspy emotionial singers like Stevie :) I still like the Sheryl song though

I'll be honest. I couldn't easily hear my beloved boy on Magnet and Steel either. But, of course, I could hear Stevie. Stevie's voice makes that song, and the same is true of Whenever I Call You Friend. That sappy Loggins mess would never have gotten any notice from me, without her voice.

pattyfan 06-15-2019 03:39 PM

The very last notes that Stevie sings in the song are exactly the same as the very last notes in Starshine. :)

Is Stevie really on Magnet and Steal? I can’t her harmonies at all and the song is definitely not a duet.

Sure she is. I mean, you can almost forget all of her own songs, those background vocals alone (and on Gold) would be enough to make one fall in love with her, before you learned what she is.

What, on lead?!

OK, on listening to it again, I realize it's Stevie, but "modified" or whatever. Yeah, that's her "ooh" - just not her register. I also think that when they were jacking around with it to make it higher, they lost some of the warmth and distinctive timbre of her voice in the process. That's why I didn't recognize it; I was listening for her real voice. I can hear that in the background sometimes and at the end.

Yep.

Someone earlier likened it to her voice on Too Far From Texas. I think they've tweaked it in the same way on this one; the difference is her natural voice is even more deteriorated now than it was in 2001 on TISL.
