Danny and Django

Hi everyboby!

I bought a Django Reinhardt 3CD box set this week just out of curiousity. And I was blown away by his playing!! I really recommend it!

Then I thought of Danny's "Jigsaw Puzzle Blues." Some places I have read that it was something he had heard Django do. Other places it said that it was only inspired by Django. It certainly is, but none of the 58 tracks on the Django box was called "Jigsaw Puzzle Blues." And none had the same musical structure and chords as "Jigsaw Puzzle Blues."

So does anybody know if the song was a cover of a Django tune, or just inspired by his playing? I would have loved to hear Django do it.

Daniel

"Jigsaw Puzzle Blues" is a Danny original; only INSPIRED by Django.

. . . nah, not true. the "inspiration" (if you will) came from a 1933 title of the same name by joe venuti & eddie lang. have a listen to that:

if you go to the 2:00 minute mark exactly - that's where the clarinet solo starts which danny had copied nearly note for note.
