Say You Love Me

I am probably the only person on this board who has never seen this, but I thought I'd post it just in case any one hadn't. Christine looks fantastic, and if you look at 1:13 they actually pan to the front of the stage and you can see Stevie walking on the ground, possibly going to the stage, or maybe off stage as she never actually appears on stage in the video and I don't hear her.

And I"m not a football fan, so I guess I wouldn't know, but who is in the little circle watching from somewhere? The whole thing is cool, but dated, and a little surreal. :)

This belongs in Post rumours.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't Stevie.

I've seen this before but never noticed Stevie in the foreground. I guess I thought she's dropped out of this iteration of the band by then(?)

She had. Technically, so had Rick Vito, but Billy got him to do this.

Macfan4life 04-11-2017 05:29 AM

That was not Stevie. The woman is younger and walks way faster than Stevie. She is also very thin compared to Stevie in 1993. In addition no one bats an eye as she walks up against the crowd. This woman obviously was stage crew, make up or someone else working with the band. In 1993 Stevie and Mick were not speaking. There is no way she would be with the band and walking around with the crowd outside.
The woman is dressed like Stevie. And you realize how many fans dress like Stevie at concerts.

I think it would have been cool if the Fleetwood/McVie/McVie/Burnette lineup had continued for a while. I really like the songs they did for the 25 Years box set and Christine's songs from Time. Adding Bekka Bramlett and Dave Mason, talented as they may be just didn't work at all and the live footage I've seen of that lineup is just embarrassing to watch. I'm glad The Dance came after to resurrect the Mac.

99% sure that's not Stevie (though it does look a lot like her). They only played one song so if she was going to have been there she'd have been on the stage with them.
I agree it would have been better to have had Mick, John, Chris and Billy continue as a four-piece band. Perhaps they would have done if Billy hadn't subsequently jumped ship (only to later rejoin).

Not Stevie, she wasn't there.

I think they did a few songs. "World Turning" could be heard in the background later in the segment.

If Christine hadn't stopped touring and had Billy not left, there very well may have been an album with that lineup. However, with Stevie gone, Christine off the road, and the fact that most of Fleetwood Mac's hits were by the the ladies, they needed another female vocalist. And, they needed another male vocalist and a lead guitarist, and Dave Mason fit that bill.

I could have done without Dave Mason, but I thought Bekka did a great job, and I really liked the chemistry she and Billy had.

I don't know what happened first... Christine 'retiring' from touring or Billy leaving?
PS this whole thread could be moved to 'post Rumours'.

Christine announced midway through the BTM tour in 1990 that it would be her last. Billy left in early 1993.

I saw Fleetwood Mac in May 1995 at the West Palm Beach Sun Festival. Billy performed with the band. Billy also recorded with the band for October's 1995 Time release. Billy stayed longer than 1993.

He left which is why Mick took on Bekka and Dave. He then asked to come back (once Time was already underway, I believe).

And, when he came back in 1994, they were pretty vague about his status in the band.

"It's gonna be different, but the only thing I can say is the
emphasis is the same as the Peter Green era - it's very
song-oriented, melody and words and that great rhythm section. It
doesn't sound like the Buckingham/Nicks era at all. "
The band, which founders Fleetwood and bassist John McVie decided
to re-form last fall, is working on a studio album that will probably
not be out until next summer. Which puts the members of the current
band (the McVies, Fleetwood, Mason and vocalist Bekka Bramlett,

daughter of Bonnie Bramlett of Delaney and Bonnie fame) in the odd
position of recording together without having played much live.

The band's summer tour dates are the only opportunity they will
have before finishing the record. That tour stops in Dallas today as
the band plays with Foreigner and the Doobie Brothers as part of
Freedomfest '94. For the tour, Steve Toma takes Christine McVie's
place, and Mac vet Billy Burnett adds second guitar.
