Love Is

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on this song from prior posts.

This is a masterpiece! Does anyone know anything about it? Inspiriations? Stories from Stevie herself about the song?

Have she ever done it live, and how can I get a copy?

I've been listening to it on repeat today. It's perfect.

Sorry I can't answer the questions you posed. But Love Is has got to be my favourite Stevie song ever. Both the demo and the TISL versions are fantastic. I'm going to go and play it now..lol............

As far as I know, she's never performed the song live. I'd definitely love to hear it, although I don't think anything will ever beat Pierre Marchand's production on it.

Definitely love the line "Love is what you believe it is" from the demo (you can hear this on the album version as the very end if you crank your speakers). This has been a very meaningful song for me. I'm getting that line tattooed on my arm in May.

I started a "Let's talk about..." thread a few months ago. Tons of speculation of meaning, and I think the demo may have been posted there as well, if you don't have it.

Haha...yeah I was reading it the other night after re-posting. More of a group therapy session than a thread, wouldn't you say?

Thanks! I tried to download the demo from this thread, and it was no longer available. Do you happen to have it?[/I]

Ditto to the suggestion that Live Is might be a masterpiece, it is definately on my short list.
This was indeed a very nice Lets Talk About thread a while back, and I did a video blog about it which is one of my favorites. Big mush that I am, I nearly get choked up at the end when I discuss the "Are you happy?" segment towards the end.
Have a look..

I love this song. Its so beautiful and so sad.

Its a pretty good song despite Pierre Marchand McLachlanizing it- providing enough bombast to push it into the "epic" territory.

This is definitely one of her most emotionally powerful solo songs. Most of her solo music seems to be more fluff to me than her Mac recordings. This one is a definite exception. This one of those songs I love to play after breakups... because despite it's sad subject nature, it's innately positive. Stevie seemed thankful to have had the opportunity to feel such powerful feelings of love, even if it ended in utter heartache. And I think that's one of the things I've always loved about Stevie most. Her turning the worst downfalls in her life into positives. That's what I've always tried to do.

I think that's what makes songs like this one all the more tragic. I think Stevie does this a lot-- it also works the other way around. "Crystal" is often heartwrenching to me. There's definitely an intrinsic sense of sadness that weaves in and out of that song.

Didn't Stevie write this song around 95 or something? I remember her saying in an interview that she wrote it after (?) she had the conversation with Tom Petty. She said the first song she wrote after that conversation was TISL and then didn't she say she wrote Love Is? Or am I imagining this? lol. And I'm guessing on the year. I don't quite know what year TISL was written.
