New version of "Gypsy" in Netflix's show "Gypsy"
In the June 15 issue of Rolling Stone, the new Netflix show "Gypsy" is listed as a must-see show for the summer. The blurb about the show says something to the effect of, "The show's soundtrack gets a boost from a reworked version of the Stevie Nicks original."
It doesn't mention if Stevie sings the new version, or if it's by someone else; however, didn't another Ledge member say that Stevie re-recorded "Gypsy" for this show? |
I couldn't find anything more about it, but did see this from The Hollywood Reporter:
"The only thing the show doesn't spell out aggressively and frequently is its title, but after hearing Stevie Nicks sing the opening song 10 times, over a credit sequence featuring Jean's image splintered through shards of glass, you'll probably be able to figure out that it's about the desire to retreat into past identities and carrying vagabond pieces of those identities into the present." |

It would seem that person knew what they were talking about! |
Ironically, Naomi Watts stars in both Gypsy and the Book of Henry, both of which feature new songs by Stevie.
|
The person who predicted this and the tour also said a new album is coming with a new producer!!
|
Is this show out yet? If not, does anyone know the release date?
|
Like Twisted is she re recording it because she didn't like what Lindsey did with it???? Because if that's so, she's dead wrong. What a shame.

okay not to be a debbie downer....but why would she or anyone EVER want to rework gypsy??? gypsy is one of most perfect songs there's not a single thing i would change about it and i would never want to hear it any other way. it's a classic!
|
also i'm surprised the show itself is called gypsy. people these days tend to be more politically correct about using the term since a lot of people say it's a slur for the romani people who are an oppressed group everywhere, not a fashion/lifestyle statement. i can completely understand for the time when stevie wrote the song was obviously much different so you can't fault her for it at all, but people are a lot more sensitive about things like that these days.

I remember that person's post (can't remember who it was) and I think just about everything they stated has come to fruition. The most concerning titbit (for me) was that Dave Stewart had effectively been replaced as producer (I realise some would consider this a bonus) because I think he essentially lit a fire under Stevie in recent years. He also ensures work gets completed, released and (to a point) promoted (in an era where an artist of Stevie's age would not ordinarily warrant attention).

Well the rumour I read insinuated that Stevie was angry concerning what Dave wrote about their fling in his autobiography. Whilst promoting the book, Dave mentioned that he had sought Stevie's permission to reference their liaison but other sources suggest she wasn't pleased with what was actually written (ie that it was a sordid tale of yet more debauchery).
