Beating heart?!!!! WTF?!

They just look too damn real. Maybe those nut cases that steal other people's babies should just invest in one of these . . .

DrummerDeanna 01-12-2004 11:20 PM

Okay...YIKES!! Those are super creepy....

That's a very good question. Alas, I don't have a logical answer.

Eugh, that's just weird... no-other-words-can-describe-it weird.

Actually I mentioned this to some co workers of mine, I am an infant teacher at a local daycare. Turns out one of the monthers in the other infant class we have, had a doll like this made after her first child died when he was 2 weeks old. They commishioned some doll maker to build a baby doll that resembled the baby so that they could have that for a keepsake of him.

 That is definitely creepy. Some strange stuff on eBay, isn't there?

Now that seems a little bit off, in my opinion.

It seems very emotionally unhealthy to not be able to process that kind of loss because you have such a "real" keepsake.

Yikes! I don't think that is healthy either, it is a bit off...though people do seemingly odd things when grieving, especially for a child...still I prefer blankets or toys or picture as keepsakes rather than creepy dolls....

People grieve in different ways . . . but I think that doing something like this keeps you from processing all the feelings that go along with grief.

The most extreme example seems like those people who want to "resurrect" their dead child by using the DNA to make a cloned child.

Oh, I agree...I know it must be awful to lose a child...I can't even imagine!!! But those dolls remind me of a lady I know from church, she's a little odd...but we were talking about loss once and she said that when her mother died she did research trying to see if instead of cremation of burial she could have her mother stuffed and just keep her in her old rocking chair...those of us listening just sort of kept quiet..but man...that would actually be mucher creepier than those dolls :)
