The original Fleetwood Mac torrents

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=66464

Fleetwood Mac - Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, California, February 19th 1971
(Peter Green reunion)

1. Station Man
2. Get Like You Used To Be
3. Dragonfly
4. Purple Dancer
5. I'd Rather Go Blind
6. Tell Me All The Things You Do > Psychedelic Blues Jam (fades out)

John Mcvie, Mick Fleetwood, Danny Kirwan, Christine Perfect, Peter Green.

After Jeremy Spencer left Fleetwood Mac in February 1971 without a warning to the band, Fleetwood Mac asked Peter Green to rejoin the band, cause some gigs were booked and they need somebody to replace Jeremy....so Peter agreed to temporary tour with them again.

Pretty nice and clean audience recording, short set.

1st generation cassette > behringer ultra curve pro deq 2496 equalizer > tascam cdrw750 > plex tool professional XL > wav > flac.

I don't remember if this was seeded here before, i got this tape in trade 20 years ago, is it a great classic so i think many of you will be pleased to have this show.

Thanks, Brian! I'm headed right there!

Isn't this a soundboard? I have this CD. It sounds like a soundboard to me. I'd grade my copy as a B+. Is this an upgrade?

It is the same copy that at least I've had before. The sound quality and track timings all match. I believe it doesn't come from a first generation tape, as Merely A Portmanteau has two songs from the soundboard of this concert in FAR superior sound quality.

Here's an mp3 sample so you can check it out yourself:

Thanks, Gaius.:) Yes, I have that "Dragonfly" too. It sounds like the exact same quality as my copy. It's definitely a soundboard. although it still has that same background hiss.

Just shamelessly plugging my own seed:

Fleetwood Mac:
1971-02-19
Swing Auditorium, San Bernandino, CA

Lineage: SBD? > ? > vinyl bootleg "Merely A Portmanteau" > CD-R > EAC > FLAC

01. Station Man 7.25
02. Tell Me All The Things You Do 18.29 (LONGER THAN THE EARLIER TORRENTED VERSION)

Credits: Sharksfan2000 who traded for this with me.

This is a companion torrent to 38f's seed here at Dime: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=66464
In spite of being sourced from vinyl, the sound quality is notably superior to the torrent that 38f seeded, however, unfortunately only two songs were preserved on this vinyl bootleg.

38f requested that I should combine these two tracks with his torrent, I chose not to do so because I prefer to keep these sources (since they are different) separate myself. In short, I'm just being lazy. ;) However, if someone else wants to combine the two sources and torrent the whole thing here, do go ahead.

Fleetwood Mac fans thought for years that these two songs on the MAP vinyl bootleg were recorded at BBC sometime in 1970. However, when they got their hands on the longer (but poorer in quality) recording of San Bernandino 1971, it was noticed that the two songs on MAP actually come from that concert.

___________

From a post by Sharksfan2000 at the Ledge (THE Fleetwood Mac message board):

"I tried this evening to compare more carefully the San Bernadino disc and side 2 of "Merely a Portmanteau". Very interesting!

"Station Man" is almost certainly the same performance. I'm pretty sure that "Tell Me All the Things You Do" is as well, but it's harder to tell since I believe the version on the disc has been edited (aside from fading out before the end). The later parts of TMATTYD have some differences, and I was getting tired of comparing them - maybe I'll try some more tomorrow. As I say, I'm pretty sure some editing has taken place. Comparing Christine announcing the song and the beginning of the actual playing - there's more between the announcement and the band actually starting to play on "Portmanteau", but it sounds like that part's been edited out on the disc version.

The sound on "Portmanteau" is considerably better than the disc. Must have been too many poorly dubbed tapes before the show made it onto cd-r."

___________

For some weird reason Christine's goodbyes to the audience are found at the beginning of "Station Man", then the song itself starts as in the companion torrent. There's also a funny comment right after "Tell Me All The Things You Do" fades out, it has nothing to do with the recording itself but I just left it there because this is how I received my CD-R copy; you can edit it out if it bothers you.

If the complete set in the same quality as these two tracks ever turns up, please share it!

dino 11-01-2005 01:06 PM

Ah...the old friend San Bernadino '71. I wouldn't call it a classic, though.
Peter Green only plays rhythm guitar on it (if it IS him, but who else could it be, with Jeremy departed). The other circulated spring '71 are more exciting, but the quality is terrible...

Peter Green - guitar, vocals
John McVie - bass
Mick Fleetwood - drums
Jeremy Spencer - guitar, vocals
Paul Butterfield - harp (where noted)

There are minor channel fluctuations in a few spots but this mostly sounds spectacular with a very 60's sounding mix (vocals in one channel and guitars in the other). To be able to hear Paul Butterfield with Fleetwood Mac is a highlight but Peter Green sounds really great too!

I have heard that this was posted back in the STG era, but this version has been remastered with the sets separated better between discs and some minor "nip and tuck" type edits. No EQ or noise reduction was used in the remastering process.

From Peter Green's stage comments, this is from one week into Fleetwood Mac's first U.S. tour and he sounds like he's having a really good time on the last night of a 3 show run with Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. This is presumed to be the last night because Peter Green makes a comment about how they'll be back in 2 weeks (not the following night). I think that they returned to the Carousel on the 22nd or 23rd of June.

A Dime member offered to create some cover art and it contains some rare cover photos that came from another Dime member so thanks to both of them and to the original source for this terrific recording!

I should mention that the poster for this concert was one of the strangest designs ever. It was a rendition of some medals that was supposed to be cut out and worn. I guess you'd have to see it to understand the concept...

If anyone's got this set, would they be so kind as to re-seed it on Dime?

Or, even more kind, upload it to YouSendIt or something, since it's just six tracks? And since my Dime account got deleted for inactivity while I was out globetrotting...

Some folks over on AMFM would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance to whomever can come through!

Thanks for the posting...even being in the WMA format shouldn't be too lossey, back when this was recorded most tape decks had frequency ranges of 50-15,000 or so...which is usually what the lossey formats cut down to for quicker compression.;)

Surely this one deserves to be announced here too. First time for me to hear "Nightwatch" live! And according to the original seeder's mp3 samples it sounds pretty good for a Fleetwood Mac bootleg.

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=108866

Quote:

Fleetwood Mac Live at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles 1974-11-30 Complete "Heroes Are Hard To Find" Show from master reel to reel AUD tape (first time in circulation) Rare setlist, and one of Bob Welch's last shows! mp3 sample

This reel had become seperated from its broken tape box some time back, and had become misplaced and forgotten. The box had become damaged sometime prior to my possession in the early 1990's, and the tape had apparently been improperly stored as a result.

If you collect music the way I do, organization is a real problem. Wait, let's talk about that for a minute: most people who DO collect music the way I do generally have a spouse or family member, who either doesn't understand and says something to you about it, or... who sometimes takes matters into their own hands and rearranges all of your carefully arranged "**** piles" into a clean, tidy, out of the way place... where you can't find anything anymore.

Does this sound familiar?

Mrs. Doinker is NOT like that, she's a very understanding woman. She's even asked to be quoted here:

"Once in a while I get tired of being alone. Sometimes I come come and the first thing you do is go up on that dammed computer. Then, when you finally come to bed, you expect me to be bright and cheerful. But, I'm not. I'm smarter than you".

Great... just great... LOLOL!!!

As a reference to this subject, or if you are with me for the first time, look at the title page of this torrent:

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d...id=68263&hit=1

But hey, anyway, as I was saying, organizing stuff is a bit of a problem around here. So, the box destoyed itself, and the reel disappeared for over two years.

The reel was located open on a shelf while trying to reorganize CDr's. A faulty transfer had been made when the tapes were first received, and I found that. From there a search went on for the reel.

No amount of tape baking will work on this tape. It's mechanically damaged and the oxide is no longer there for parts of it. What you will hear is a reconstruction that took many hours to do. Recording levels were altered many times, and one portion was reconstructed from scratch with overlays from other material within the concert due to unrecoverable damage. It still isn't perfect, but it is listenable to.

Identifying the show was another matter. The tape only says "Shrine" on it, and there was nothing else to go by. Through the kind courtesy of FMLegacy.com, the date of 1974-11-30 was given as a possibility. On this date, Fleetwood Mac opened for the Jefferson Starship. A quick search turned up the Starship reel, and the dates matched.

It's a great set, with rarely heard material:

Setlist:

Disk 1
Intro - Coming Home
The Green Manalishi
Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
Sentimental Lady
Future Games
Bermuda Triangle (over 12 mins!)
Why
Nightwatch

Disk 2
Believe Me
BlacK Magic Woman
Oh Well
Band Intro Blues - Band Intros
Rattlesnake Shake
Hypnotized

Check out the "World Turning" style drum solo during "Nightwatch"!

Personnel:

Bob Welch
Christine McVie
John McVie
Mick Fleetwood
Bobby Hunt

Bobby Hunt's tenure with the band was extremely short-lived. It is sure that he only played with the band from September through December, and that he was the second, and final keyboardist before Welch's departure. This show was recorded during a very turbulent time in the band's history, right at the end of the band's second era.

With the acquisition of Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks toward the end of the following year, greater treasures lay ahead. But at the time of this recording, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer's weird departures had dug such a black hole, that it threatened to put the group out of business forever.

Enjoy!

Since at this show at the Shrine they were the opening act for Jefferson Starship, their set was shorter than the one I saw the next night at the Long Beach Arena, when they were the headliners.

Additional tunes at Long Beach:

Get Like You Used To Be (opened the set, followed by "Coming Home")
Station Man (between "Coming Home" & "Green Manalishi")
Bad Loser (between "Why" & "Night Watch")
Jewel-Eyed Judy (between "Believe Me" & "Black Magic Woman")
Homeward Bound (first encore tune...after "Rattlesnake Shake" closed set..."Hypnotized" finished off the night)

I believe that the Long Beach show was the final night of the tour, which means that I saw Bob Welch's final show with Fleetwood Mac.

Here we have a very good audience recording with a bit of a different set list than the previous '74 post. This came to me years ago dated as October 14th, a quick search turned up the correct date of October 19th.

True to form in Chicago we get some very nice blues played in additon to the normal '74 setlist (Christine never sounded so good as on "I'd Rather Go Blind").

Great complete show I've listened to many many times over the years, it really gives you a great feel for the 1974 version of the band and what they were like live.

I've boosted the master gain by +4dbs and cleaned up the song transitions a bit.

As always sound samples attached...

Enjoy!

Me again:

I don't know if this has been up here before, but my reel sounds sooo goood that I thought I would share it anyways and wait to see what everyone says.....

I got this Fleetwood Mac show about 25 yrs ago. The Master Cassette Tape was sent to me...copy made @ 7 1/2 ips. Great sound for a 1970 vintage show. There are some issues. Sounds like Tape to Head contact was not there when the pause button was pushed. So there is some loss in the high frequency range when this happens. Still a great sounding show.

Many thanks to my good friends on the West Coast for all the great trades they provided me with!

Oh and I forgot.......Another analog recording moved into the digital realm

--Upgrade!--FLEETWOOD MAC feat. Peter Green-1971-02-19-Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, Ca --sbd from 1st Gen. Reel!--

Friends, here´s the best sounding & most complete version of this memorable show, I found so far!

Peter Green joined Fleetwood Mac for a few dates, after Jeremy Spencer shocked Fleetwood Mac with his legendary disappearance.

This was recorded from soundboard by Harry Kraslow & fortunately taperpat sent me a copy on CDR, from his 1st Gen reel copy, for upload, here!

All thanks for the upload to both of them!

This show was earlyer traded as -1971-03-24,but since the poster of the show was found (scan incl. in torrent), the Date had to be corrected

This is great news, Gaius! Thanks for spotting this.

"Tell Me All The Things You Do" has still been cut off after 14,5 minutes. It might be that the additional bits of it that appear on Merely A Portmanteau might still be out there somewhere. But the main point here is to get to appreciate Christine fully in her Patti Smith mode!

Just wait and I'll double this post on the Greeny board too. ;)

Can anybody help me?
I've been trying to get an accoount on dimeadozen for months now, but could never get one due to the fact that the maximum of 100.000 registered users is always exceeded.
Is there any other way to get to those files?????:distress: :distress:

[QUOTE=dino;574556]Singing flat, you mean?

She sounds a bit unsure of herself...or maybe having Peter there was intimidating...or?

Chris had a lot of vocal problems live back in the early, early days. She has admitted it. She got ALOT better with practice. If you compare her voice in 1970-1972 with her voice in 1974, it's almost like 2 different singers.

I'll say. The transformation is remarkable. Consider that live version of "Spare me a Little" from 1970 that you posted on yousendit a month or so back with the live version from the Sausalito radio show in 74.

Something breakthrough happened for Chris between the Bare Trees and Penguin/Mystery tours. Even on the 1973 Midnight Special version of "Believe Me" her voice sounds great--infinitely better than her voice on the 1972 Seattle bootleg.

I think part of the breakthrough was allowing herself to sound more feminine. Before this, most of her live shows (with Chicken Shack and with Mac) featured her doing tough-girl, one-of-the-boys sort of blues.
