Best website design software

Help! Can someone who is much more knowledgeable than me point me in the direction of some user-friendly design software?

Now that I have some paid webspace, I need to use a website design package that allows for FTP (which I had never even heard of until now . . .). I don't care if I have to pay for something, I just want to make sure I can figure it out and it will do what I want (which is put up a simple download page).

Any suggestions would be a big help! :wavey:

I use Notepad for all of my HTML coding... I'm pretty sure that that's ftp-friendly. Basically what you do is you type in your html and save it as something like "homepage.html" or "homepage.htm", etc. I'm not too good with design software, so I might not have the correct info  But, I hope that helps! :wavey:
