Women in Rock

Christine has a small quote in his 1973 Los Angeles Times article about women in rock.

All she gets to say is:
Quote:

There's a difference between being a groupie and a woman in a group. And I don't like it when the two are confused.

I wished they'd given her more space. I'd be interested in her thoughts about touring etc...during this time period.

It would have been nice. I remember her talking about the lack of privacy on the road, but I've never really seen a lot more detail about those pre-1975 days. The L. A. Times probably thought its readers didn't know who she was, so they didn't talk to her. Frustrating.

There is a world of difference between a woman in a group and a groupie, as should be obvious to anyone who knows what the term 'groupie' means. I wonder what incident or series of incidents led to Chris making this remark. She must have had encounters with people who treated her as if she was just "with" the band (as opposed to being IN the band).

She was obviously feeling a lack of respect. Even in those days she wasn't getting the credit she deserved for being a woman musician in a mixed-gender rock band.

Even if she had been just "with" the band (which of course wasn't the case), it would have been perfectly respectable since she was married to the bass player. Nothing scandalous about it. LOL

I wish Chris would write a book. I'd love to hear her side of the Fleetwood Mac story.

That would be really interesting. However I don't see that coming. As I read, she (and Stevie) didn't like when Mick wrote his autobiography, though imho he didn't say anything bad or ugly about the girls.

Besides Christine (with John) seems to be the most discret member.
