Hi there...

Hi there,

I have taken inspiration from my fellow Glaswegian above, and am de-lurking after 1 year!

Don't think Nicks is a Scottish name but if I come across any better info I'll let you know (btw, am a family history freak so this is of special interest to me!)

after my last post i decided to look up Barbara Meeks....what else, right? Found nothing until i added Stevie Nicks to it....here's an excerpt from a Billboard article:

Stephanie Nicks was born May 26, 1948, the daughter of General Brewing president Jess Nicks and the former Barbara Meeks. "My mother's mom and dad were divorced very early," says Stevie, "and her stepfather worked in a coal mine in Ajo, Arizona, and died of tuberculosis. She had a hard life, was very poor, was 19 when she got married, had me at 20. My dad went after a big job in a big company, got it, did very well, and liked to move around and travel a lot. My mom got used to it and had a lot of fun, but she's much more practical, frugal - she still sniffs her nose at my dad's and my experience tastes - and she wanted more than anything else for her daughter and son (Christopher) to be independent and self assured."

the question is....is Meeks the real father's last name or the stepfather's????

ay yi yiiiiiiiiiiii

I would say English largely due to the fact that she is Episcopalian by birth.
Episcopal = Church of England. Most Episcopalians in this country can trace their ancestry to the English colonists of America.

:wavey: I can attest to this. I am Episcopalian by birth, it comes from my mother's side of the family, and her maiden name is Jameson (Scotch-Irish).

  No, it doesn't!

Ahhhh. Meeks doesn't sound German to me, perhaps another Brit line runs in her family (that would explain her obsession with Dickensian inspired street urchin fashion and the like). I dunno. It's hard to know what the original names of both her father's and mother's ancestors were. When people immigrated over here way back when, a lot of them changed their names or altered them for one reason or another. Whoever said this sounds like a good "ask Stevie" question was right!

I read long time ago that Stevie said that she's American but with a bit of Armenian blood by a grandparent...
