Your Dream Chris Solo Show

Totally imaginary, never-gonna-happen situation here: if Christine McVie went out on the road in reformed voice with an entirely non-Mac backing band, what songs would you want her to perform?

Here's my list

1. Say You Love Me
2. Nights in Estoril
3. Believe Me
4. Behind the Mask
5. The Smile I Live For
6. Friend
7. Bad Loser
8. Too Far Gone (or maybe I'm the One)
9. Northern Star
10. Isn't It Midnight
11. Remember Me
12. Love Shines
13. Show Me a Smile
14. Carnival Begin
15. Got a Hold on Me

Encore
16. You Make Loving Fun
17. As Long as You Follow
18. Songbird

Didn't include Little Lies, Everywhere, Don't Stop, World Turning, Think About Me, Hold Me or Why because I think those would pale in comparison to Mac renditions. Stevie and Lindsey are a bit too necessary on those.

My dream Christine solo show would have taken place around 1995 or 1996—her voice was in excellent form. I’d want her at the piano the entire time, just her on stage alternating some ballads with blues. Yes, God.

We must be separated at birth because I could definitely live with that show.
I would switch out Bad Loser for Come a little bit closer. Add something from Tusk, Ask Anybody, Only Over You and drop Love Shines and Show me a smile.
I think Warm Ways would be a fantastic addition too. Glad you picked Nights in Estoril because that is my top 3 all time Favorite Chris tune.

I love the set list you picked out but I do think I would include Why......it could work without the MAC.

And then a giant poster of Tom Petty scrolls down behind Stevie.

Just as Stevie is talking about Tom, the giant UFO from Christine's "Love will show us how" video falls from the rafters and crushes Stevie. Her boots are seen coming from under the UFO and curl up and roll away just like in the Wizard of Oz when the house lands on top of the witch.

THE END

Ooops then Mick issues a statement welcoming Lindsey back to the band and how it was all just a big "misunderstanding."

Love in Store
Who's Dreaming This Dream
Game of Pretend
Bad Journey
Over & Over
Isn't It Midnight
Calumny
Hold me
Never make me cry
One more night
Say you love me
Oh Daddy
Forgiveness
Red Sun
Warm Ways
Everywhere

Encore:
Skies the Limit
As Long as You Follow
Songbird

No no..
Go back and check the record. When I was the first one to praise the song I don't remember any defenders. Everyone flamed it saying it was not like Christine.

I LOVED the song from the first time I heard it in 2004. I was floored when she gives a shout out to Key Biscayne because when her album dropped in 2004, I was living only a few miles from there. Its definitely one of her best tunes and I would include it in any concert.
We will welcome you into the club though ;)

BTW, its impossible to juggle BOTH the Bad Journey fan club AND the Welcome to the Room Sara fan club at the same time. Stick with what you know and love!

That'll be on the FM Farewell Tour.

Gotta have:
  • Prove Your Love
  • One More Night
  • When the Train Comes Back
  • Remember Me
  • No Road Is the Right Road (BBC style)
  • Never Forget
  • I’m on My Way (Christine Perfect slow-burning blues)
  • You Ain’t No Good (another slow blues)
  • Did You Ever Love Me
  • It’s You I Miss (old driving rocker)
  • Hey, Baby (raucous blues shuffle)
  • Gone into the Sun
  • Get Like You Used to Be (natch)

She does blues in her weird little way that makes you fall in love with her and her blues.

Were you on FM legacy? We used to have an annual song poll and why would always come up number when all the votes were tabulated.

No Road is the Right Road kicks some serious butt. It's not only the finest self-penned song from her 1970 album; it shows Christine's songwriting was already evolving from pure blues. I wish she wrote and sang more stax-inspired R&B like this.

I love No Road!! I'm going to have to break out the Christine Perfect album. :)

Hard to pick one out from the others...
...but it if pushed it might be tied with Close to Me.

nicepace 02-05-2020 06:33 PM

I'm particularly fond of "Wait and See," but the other tunes people have mentioned are great, too. Too bad Chris herself never really promoted this wonderful album, and the other tunes from that period like "Gone Into the Sun."

There are Fleetwood Mac tribute bands out there that are supposed to be pretty good. I'd really like to see a talented woman who sings with a smokey voice and plays killer blues piano present a tribute show covering Christine's early years. It might only appeal to a tiny segment of Fleetwood Mac's fan base, but I think it would be VERY appealing to those of us who care about that part of Chris' career.

The three songs she recorded after the album came out ("Gone Into the Sun," "It's You I Miss," and "Tell Me You Need Me") show real growth in her and in the band. If she'd stuck with that label and those musicians, she would likely have built a low-key but highly-respected body of Christine-centered music, somewhere between Dusty Springfield and Bonnie Raitt.

But, time proved her decision was the right one. Mac would not be Mac without her.

Where do we find the BBC rendition of No Road and the others? Are they on CD? Not the Legendary Christine Perfect version.

I too would love to hear these songs live.

I’d like “Crazy ‘Bout You, Baby” a la Madison Blues.

I much prefer the Madison Blues (live in studio) version as well. She sounds great and the two guitars are aggressive yet tasteful.

Yes, indeed! I remember when this was released how much more I appreciated the song.

Thank you! Her organ work on a few of the pieces is inspired, as are her vocals and piano.

Did she play piano on "Tears in the Wind"?
