"Time" at 20

I could do without the Dave Mason songs. The original "Blow By Blow" was good, but the remake that made the album useless.

Mick's song had the best guitar solo.

Generally speaking, Christine's songs were too long. "Hollywood" and "Sooner or Later" were needlessly long. Nothing was gained by extending their time. The useless time would have been better spent on another song ( like another remake of "The Bigger the Love").

Too many remakes. "Talkin' To My Heart" and "Nothing Without You" weren't new (nor was "Blow By Blow" technically speaking). Yeah, they were better than dead space, but I wanted more.

For me, Bekka Bramlett and Billy Burnette were the heroes of this album. The album they made a few years later was okay, but I wonder what could have been (artistically) if they had parted ways with Dave, and maybe even Christine, and focused more on the chemistry between Bekka and Billy. I think they could have taken the band on a new direction.

Time is not great and I agree the Dave Mason songs are also my least favorite. But Time has one of my favorite Christine Mac songs "Nights in Estoril." That song is probably in my top 10 of Christine songs. The writing, the lyrics, the singing, the lyrics... just wonderful. Its so romantic but such a rocker. Without Lindsey you can hear Chris really put her stamp on this song. Her keyboards and melody. Just love that song. So while I can forget Time, I cant forget Nights in Estoril. Just an amazing song!
Cannot understand why this song was not released as a single and did a video.

I see Time as a necessary link in the chain that kept the pulse of the band alive. It is not the strongest link but it's a listenable album. Christine's songs were critical for the fact that they provided the most identifying qualities of the most popular version the band.

In the Time era it was so uncertain where the band was going. In hindsight, the album served as placeholder. Fate intervened, and the five fireflies managed reconvene for The Dance, as well as the current tour.

This most successful configuration has only made five studio albums. Hopefully they can manage to a sixth one - the last one.
