The first article says that McVie has quit the band (with Flint ) That has to be wrong surely, given that Peter has just joined and it's dated 1966 ?(thanks for posting these articles Becca )

Thanks for the articles, becca! |
You could look upon it as a suspension. There was an older tradition of band leaders to dock pay and suspend members for bad behaviour, Mayall might've been on that kind of a trip. Jack Bruce seemed to always be getting the sack from somebody or other. Peter actually came back once too after leaving for some recording date, that produced the B-side 'Jenny'. Jenny Boyd?
Aynsley was out and then came back after Mick Fleetwood's stint, then out again. Even Pete Frame would have trouble mapping it all out I'm sure. :D |
Fascinating! I'd always assumed these Mc Vie "sackings for drunkeness" were sort of "You're drunk! You're fired! Get out of the van ! "-but when he had sobered up they all made up! Obviously it was more serious than that.
Also, I'm amazed at how scathing Mayall is about Clapton ! (I have a lot of my original Beat Instrumentals, but I dont think I started to get it untill 1968.) |
