50 years: Don't Stop

Career-spanning compilation • 3CD or 5LP vinyl

You can’t move for 50th anniversaries right now and so Fleetwood Mac will celebrate a half century of music in November with 50 Years: Don’t Stop a 50-song collection that explores the group’s entire career, from its early days playing the blues, to the superstardom and rock/pop of the late 1970s, 1980s and beyond.

The 50 tracks span from 1968 to 2013 and that means music from every incarnation of the band with musicians such as Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, Jeremey Spencer, John McVie, Danny Kirwan, Christine McVie, Bob Welch, Bob Weston, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Billy Burnette, Rick Vito, Dave Mason, and Bekka Bramlett.

The CD edition is a three-CD package, while to fit everything on vinyl means that is a five-record set. There’s 20-track single CD version that ends up being more of a traditional ‘greatest hits’. David Wild has written sleeve notes for this new release.

50 Years: Don’t Stop is released on 16 November 2018.

They called that The Chain boxed set, roughly 25 years ago.

So nice of them to sell us ANOTHER repackaging.

This one is a hard no for me. It's a missed opportunity for the latest lineup to put something, anything out.

Emerald Eyes instead of Why? I find that an odd choice...

Kudos for including one (edited) song from Time. I think the choices from Say You Will are a bit too predictable and not the best of that album.

I can't decide whether I'm relieved that I don't have to buy this collection as they couldn't be bothered to record one song to introduce the new line-up. On balance, it's sad they didn't haul themselves into the studio. They were obviously too busy trying to get their story straight...

Oh dear, oh dear. How incredibly poor this is.
Despite being 25 years ago I think The Chain is actually a better option.
At least back then that release had a few new things of note.
Sad!

Very uninspired set, imho...

Agree that The Chain was a better offering; and if you're talking 1975+, Very Best Of 2002 was also better.

At least they're not just rewrapping all of their albums en masse and charging $200 for it, like the Eagles.

Street_Dreamer 09-27-2018 02:33 PM

Terrible all the way around. The only new thing about this release is Sad Angel being available in disc form. It's a sad and uninspiring release which I guess goes with the band's current mantra.

sodascouts 09-27-2018 02:55 PM

They should have put the whole EP on there. That at least could be called "new" in the sense it had not been released on CD before.

At least we have the single edits.

So true. Is there something I don't get? Selling a bunch of hit singles or album tracks seems so . . . 1995.

Doesn't everyone these days just build a custom playlist on Pandora or Spotify? Why would people buy this—a commercial playlist?

Never Going Back Again is live from what?

I still use my IPOD. I invested to much money in my music to use those sources (sometimes Pandora). I will buy this for my collection.

Amazing how little has happened since The Chain, in terms of new music. Quite a deadbeat band.

Great little quote from a commenter on that website:
