VERY funny: "Paul McCartney Heralded As Unknown Artist by Surprised Kanye West Fans"

Paul McCartney Heralded As Unknown Artist by Surprised Kanye West Fans

Just because Paul McCartney is one of the biggest rock stars on the planet doesn’t mean all music fans automatically know who he is.
For proof, look no further than the response that ‘Only One,’ McCartney’s recently released collaboration with Kanye West, has gotten from a handful of Twitter users who don’t have any idea who the former Beatle is — but are expecting him to get a big leg up in his career now that he’s been given a boost by one of hip-hop’s hottest artists.

Some folks are predictably pretty upset about this, but it’s the way pop culture has always worked; just because McCartney helped lay the foundation for much of what the kids of today are listening to, that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily going to know it — the same way the millions who bought Beatles or Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin LPs weren’t obligated to research their favorite bands’ influences.
Of course, it’s always good to dig a little deeper into the music that moves you, and it probably bears mentioning that it’s never been easier or more affordable to map an artist’s musical DNA (or just, you know, Google “Paul McCartney”). Still, these tweets highlight exactly why McCartney has always been so enthusiastic about branching out into areas like film, television and video games: No matter how big you are, there’s always a new audience for you. Clearly, McCartney’s just found another one.

Wow, I knew we'd get a comment outta you but I never thought you'd be so polite. LOL

And on another note, even in FM's prime years, Some people asked me who he (Stevie) is.

Hahaha or get confused with Stevie Wonder or Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I've had people say, when I mention Fleetwood Mac, "oh, I like HIM".

#dumbasses

The people doing those Kanye tweets are pretty much all trolling. And got the reaction they wanted. Though some on Kanye's main forum are now annoyed at how far the media/online commentors have taken it because it makes them look thick.

In 800+ pages on that ONE collaborative song on that main forum, they all knew full well who McCartney was. So, while there may be a few people out there who legitimately haven't heard of him (and that's not THAT big a deal, tbh), these particular tweets are sarcastic trolling, from what I've read.

It may not be a big deal but it sure is funny as hell since it's not the first time that something like this happened:

There is tons of songs with the same song titles.

I dont know why the song writers do that.Even some of Stevie's and Mac tune titles were lifted by other song writers. As long the lyrics and the music are not the same they can get away with it without having legal issues.

Well, isn't it the same with Christine "Wish you were here" and the Pink Floyd song of the same name?

I'm more concerned with the fact that Paul is collaborating with Kanye West. What has this world come to?

Why wouldn't he? Believe me, I'm about as big a Paul McCartney fan as you'll find and I have NO problems with this. Paul's always been interested in different musical styles, artists and so on. Kanye, though I'm not a big fan of him as a person, HAS been important and innovative to music. I like Paul's collaborations with Youth as The Fireman, and all this is is further dabbling in a new genre. As long as Paul's not trying to rap and is there to provide melody, harmonies, instrumentation, etc, I think this is a good thing. It's his restlessness, his musical curiosity and his willingness to try, that I admire.

I agree. If the older artist, band wants to stay hot. They got to get involve with the current young artists.

I was hoping FM to get involve with the 30th Band Aid recording but they were on tour.

Thats probably why Stevie hangs with these kids these days.

We got Tony Bennett hanging with Lady Gaga.
