The Share Trading Thread

Hello everyone!

I am starting off something new non-Fleetwood Mac related which as far as I am aware has not been tried before.

This is a share trading discussion! Investors, traders, speculators alike come all yee merry and talk about your favourite stocks, what you're buying, what you're selling, what you wish you could afford to buy but can't and so on.

As I trade shares on the Australian Stock Exchange we can start there but by all means feel free to talk about Wall Street and also UK stocks or even Chi-X, the competitor to the ASX.

I am new to share trading and as such, currently hold shares in:

- Bank of Queensland Limited
- Bradken Limited
- Oil Search Limited
- Primary Health Care Limited

Would like to buy into:

- Insurance Australia Group
- Telstra Corporation
- Medibank Private Limited
- Myer
- National Australia Bank Corporation
- Transurban Limited
- Woodside Petroleum Limited
- Suncorp Bank Group
- JB Hi-Fi Limited
- Genesis Energy Limited
- Seven Holdings Limited
- G.U.D. Holdings Limited
- Monadelphous Group
- Fortescue Metals Group (Yes, I am brave!)

As you can see, I have a long list and also favour companies which pay fully-franked dividends.

Speculative buys I'm interested in include:
- Silex Systems Limited
- B.C. Iron Limited
- Max Sec. Limited
- Pharmaxis Limited

I once made $507 in one day buying and selling Carbon Energy Limited shares!

Anyway, feel free to discuss shares and also derivatives like Contracts for Difference, Options, Warrants and so on

If you know much about exchange-traded bonds or small caps managed funds, please share your wisdom as I am somewhat clueless on those two topics!

Here we go.

Have fun!

I've got a several grand in the S&P 500. Of which, I know NOTHING! (IRA fund, which saved me a couple thousand in taxes, by putting it in there).

I just started last year, and it went up a couple grand, and has pretty much stayed the same since... I guess I'll have to put it in again this year.

I'm a pushover for the index funds. They're a great way to build retirement security in the long term. I don't day trade, and I don't buy a stock directly unless it's a nifty company that buzzes me sexually, like Yankee Candle.
