The 1991 re-recording of "Silver Springs"

That's a interesting thought. Was there a 1991 RE-recording? I know that Mick NOT allowing "Silver Springs" to be placed on "Timespace" was a source of great conflict between he and Stevie. My assumption was always that Stevie wanted to use the original version that belonged to Warners for "Timespace". I've never thought about it this way. Was there an intention to re-record "Silver Springs" with new session musicians (Waddy Wachtel) for the "Best Of Stevie" album?

The "Silver Springs" conflict was the reason Stevie quite the band...If the Silver Springs recording belonged to WB how is it that Mick was able to keep Stevie from using it...Yes Stevie (actually her mother) owned the copyrights for Silver Springs and WB had the recording rights but what does Mick have?

Is there a Timespace recording of Silver Springs? I've never heard about it...

I seem to recall that Stevie re-recorded it in around 1996 while working on a new album? BUt then The Dance happened?

I would LOVE to hear that version!

I think it was part of the series of soundtrack songs that ended up on soundtracks like Boys on the Side and Party of Five. There must be several songs from around that time that were shelved because of the Dance. Someone out there found that Silver Springs had its copywrite renewed in 1996 which usually means she recorded it.

Mick had the master tapes. Stevie called him and asked for the SS master and he refused to give it to her.

What Stevie gave her mother was the right to royalties. That doesn't mean that you have any control over the song. Like when Michael Jackson (Sony) bought the Beatles' catalog, he could give permission for their songs to be used in advertisements which they didn't approve, but that didn't stop Paul and Yoko from making money off of the use, even if they had no control over it.

I recall back in the ancient 1980s there was a news blip which reported that Janey Don't You Lose Your Heart (or something close to that title) was a Bruce Springsteen song that Stevie was going to record. It's possible it never happened. I think his version, which remained unreleased, eventually appeared on a rarities compilation he released.

I can't imagine that it could be any better that the original.

I think Stevie had said at the Hamptons Film Fest q&a that she just did something with Babyface... not sure if that will ever be released

The Trouble in Shangri-La sessions that Stevie did with Dallas Austin have never surfaced. I guess she heard TLC's "Unpretty" and thought she had to work with the man that produced it but was unhappy with the results of their sessions. I think she said they were too R&B or something along those lines which is funny because that's pretty much all he'd produced up to that point.

I'd be very interested to hear those songs because I could hear Dallas producing a "Bombay Sapphires" kind of song--very smooth acoustic guitar driven song.
