Peter playing on Caldonia from B B King In London

The B B King recording of Caldonia appears on the In London album and a MCA compliation called The Best Of B B King.

The sleeve notes for the Best album for Caldonia state: “At the request of a participating artist, this is a shortened version of the master originally released.” The credits as listed on Discogs show the original In London version runs 4:00, while the Best version only runs about 3:20.

The names of the participants varies a little between the two entries but there is one significant omission from the Best credits – Peter Green.

Could it have been that the Peter was disatisfied with a 40 second solo he turned in and asked for it to be removed?

I don't have the In London set, just a quadraphonic mix of the Best album.

this is quite interesting news to me as i only have the original "in london" album. but you surely can tell if peter's solo can be heard on the "best" compilation or not.

i remember being very disappointed when i bought "in london" at the time - and i purchased it especially because of the prominent guest artists - as i couldn't recognize peter's style on this, his only solo of the whole album. i had hoped for much more - and much better - stuff featuring peter's guitar.

by the way: the killer track, that saved the whole lp for my money, is "alexis' boogie" - featuring (besides alexis korner and 3/4 of humble pie) a very rare example of b.b. king on acoustic guitar. splendid!

Yes, it was Green who requested that his solo be removed. The same edited version is also on this compilation:

thanks, dino - where've you got that from? not that i'm questioning this info . . . just curiosity about the source. (did peter himself reveal this somewhere?)
