Reprise likely to release "Gift of Screws" later this year

According to a published report, LB is coming out with a big surprise later this year and it is highly likely (not guaranteed) that it will be news of the long awaited release of his solo album "Gift of Screws". I am with everyone else on this board that is extremely frustrated that "Twist of Fate" has not been released in some fashion to the general public. This is great and exciting news!!! Looking forward to TOF being the first single :). Caution: The source indicated that it will definitely either be news of the release of his new cd or a video.

Actually I think that was the girl cat in all those cartoons...but you all get what I'm saying!!!!

I swear to all that is holy...

If this is false information, I'm gonna bust heads!!!! LOL

HOLY FRICKIN CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is this published report?!!?!?!?!

DownOnRodeo 07-17-2003 06:47 AM

The "surprise LB has in the works" is undoubtedly the 'Making of Say You Will' DVD. I'm sure all of us will be more than eager to get our hands on this as opposed to an official release of the GOS songs we all have (this is if we had to choose one, I'm saying!)

Seeing LB (and the rest - but especially Lindsey) doing what they do in the studio, will be so good... I just hope they're really generous with the amount of recording footage, and don't just go for the dramatic moments!!

As for Gift of Screws being released (when about a 1/3 or so of it already has been via Say You Will), there's a lot of things I could point out that make it seem unlikely, but I think the main point is, as Lindsey would say, GOS was a different 'space in time', and that's passed now.

The good songs - like Down On Rodeo, Shuffle Riff, TOF etc - may hopefully appear reworked in the (hopefully) forthcoming studio album.

I think your right. I don't think he's going to put out this goldmine of songs, because he is so eager to get the mac in the spotlight again, with like he said himself "hopefully" a new studio-album. I think the only chance of this surprise being GOS is if Stevie announced to him that she' is going to do a solo-album after this tour.

shackin'up 07-17-2003 07:27 AM

...ouch, i forgot....

I know I'm foolish, but I just want this to be true:

I've got the impression that they will add a couple of dates more and tour 'till december. Have 6 weeks off and then do London Amsterdam, Paris , Berlin, Barcelona and Rome. Oh, no Down under first in Februari, by then it's summer there and then do Europe in April. So they can be back in june for starting a new studio-album called Given Thing......

CarneVaca 07-17-2003 09:09 AM

I seriously doubt it will be Gift of Screws. However, I must disagree my fellow Down Under fan: I'd much rather get that than a video. Screw the video. You can't take it with you in the car. You can't play it at work. But a CD you can.

Plenty of songs left though:

Deep Dense
Gift of Screws
Twist of Fate
Down on Rodeo
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
Try for the Sun
She Smiled Sweetly
Gotta Get Away
Given Thing
Shuffle Riff
Wear You Down
The Singer Not the Song
Blue Turns to Grey

That's 13 right there. Then there's still Big Yellow Taxi and possibly a studio version of My Little Demon. And I'm sure by now, Lindsey has a couple more tracks.

wondergirl9847 07-17-2003 10:44 AM

LMAO!!

I just thought of something. I really wanna hear BRAND NEW never heard before songs. I don't really WANT to hear most of the GOS songs that aren't on SYW!! LOL TOF is a great song, so is GOS, etc...but really and truly, I wanna hear his most up to date stuff, and I DO NOT want to hear it via the net, I want them to keep it in a vault until release, then, BAM....the CD comes out and I hear it for the first time EVER on my CD player....ahhhh.....

*POOF*

Wow, what a cool dream!!!

I love Wear You Down and Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind (that song is beautiful). They need to find a place on an album...whatever album...his, Fleetwood Mac, whatever. Can you just picture Stevie singing, "I'm gonna knock knock down your door....." I wonder if Mr. Buckingham is once again going to attempt to ride the wave of the latest Fleetwood Mac success into the shores or if it is indeed just the DVD (which i'd be incredibly curious to see...sorry Carne ;) ) At any rate, I can't wait for either one!!!

jeffles 07-17-2003 02:39 PM

Whatever happened to that Joni Mitchell tribute that Big Yellow Taxi was supposed to be on?? I heard a 40 second clip of his version and it sounds better than the Counting Crows version.

Wear You Down is the most annoying song he's done in years.

Les 07-17-2003 03:08 PM

I think it was posted some time back that someone contacted Reprise who indicated they have shelved the Joni Mitchell tribute. Don't know if it's ever scheduled to see the light of day. Joni herself had a big falling out with Reprise according to an article I read a year or two ago.

Johnny Stew 07-17-2003 03:12 PM

I still have trouble imagining Lindsey releasing any more than two of those covers at a time.
Seems *highly* unlikely to me that he would ever release an album almost half of which was made up of cover tunes.

Cammie 07-17-2003 06:16 PM

GOS...

:cool:So Very Nice that Lindsey is going to SURPRISE US!
But...frankly...honey...I got my three versions of GOS!
Bring on a SYW Video if your working in it...so we can...
watch you turn out the musical details ...no silly stuff!;)

Please...Stupid Reprise turned GOS down...forget IT! As
wondergirl says:blob2:WE WANT NEW LINDSEY TUNES!:blob1:

Exactly. And let's face it - if you want the remaining GOS tracks on a CD for the car, then just burn one. So although the 'Making of' doco will only be useful on the tv/pc at home (or laptop I guess), it will be all this totally new stuff. Personally I'm just hanbging out to see Lindsey work on the songs in the studio. And frankly I hope there's not too much time spent on Mick driving around in his relic cars or at the gym.

EDIT: Lol Hi Cammie :wavey: You beat me to it (ie promoting the "Burn-a-GOS" policy  )

Say You WON'T!!! LOL

CarneVaca 07-18-2003 08:15 AM

I know looking at a video is nice. But I guess I'm a rarity among fans now: the music first. Yeah, I got the GOS tracks, but I'd love to have clean versions of them.

Videos? Heh, I watch them three, four times, then forget about them. Can't even remember the last time I watched the Dance. Who has the time?

stefan 07-18-2003 10:31 AM

Count me to that species too! Also there should be some new tracks we did not get hold of via the net!
But we can discuss it as long as we want to. The album won`t be released- I am pretty sure about that.

Cammie 07-18-2003 04:24 PM

"Gift of WHAAATTTT????

:wavey: LOL... Hi Back... Down on Rodeo...(great song that!)
Like the man says in Say Goodbye...Once YOU... said
Goodbye to ME REPRISE! Now I... say Goodbye to You!

Lindsey needs new managment and a new record company
who appreciate his off-beat lyrical and musical talents!!!
LIKE WE DOOOOOO!;) YES>>>LINDSEY>>> DO IT!!!

PS... Lindsey's flu$h enough to start His own Record co.!:D

seteca 07-18-2003 07:19 PM

How about the "Making Of Say You Will" and "The Remaining Songs" album as a double (DVD/CD) package....?:D

Ok...I'll wake up now....

GOS

i think I saw a post about this earlier, but why doesn't he just release it himself. If he wants the music out there and isn't worried about making buckets of money, he could have the cd's made and then hire someone to distribute. it doesn't have to be large scale, just start out with the internet; he has a website, sell it there and on the fm site. word would travel fast and those who would have bought it will find out where to get it and next thing you know we have the cd we want and he's given it to us. granted this proposition would barely cover the costs of production of the cds and distribution, that is unless he were to charge a ton of money for them, but it would make the fans happy. Just my 2 cents, and since i have almost no knowledge of the music industry everything ould be completely unfounded, but hey you live you learn.:p

Kate

WednesdaysChild 07-28-2003 09:08 AM

I agree with Kate. I don't know WHY he doesn't start his own label or just sell things off his site. If he's so anti-establishment and corporations, then he shouldn't care what Warner or Reprise or whoever it was that didn't want to put out GOS has to say! He has the money to manufacture the albums, he's got the equipment for recording...he should just go for it. His true fans would buy it.

Kate

Now there's a point I have made repeatedly. The costs of distributing music that way would be very minimal indeed. He could either make high-quality sound files available online or make it possible to order a CD online, or both. Each CD would cost less than a buck to press. He certainly wouldn't lose money.

chiliD 07-28-2003 04:22 PM

If Rick Vito can do it, I'm SURE Lindsey could, too! ;)

gldstwmn 07-28-2003 04:56 PM

I'm surprised that Lindsey is doing this. Usually it would be Mick. Thank God it's not.

seteca 07-28-2003 08:50 PM

I might be way off the mark here but I reckon the money Lindsey makes from ONE night (or TWO at the most) of this tour is enough to personally finance the release of his album (via a limited number of mediums.)

Yeah, even then, Rick has a deal with Hypertension. I was thinking even Bekka has sold her own album at her site and shows and this is a true case of it being done on her own.

Face it Lindsey, it's inexpensive. NO excuse Mr. Buckingham, NO excuse! :)

John

DownOnRodeo 07-29-2003 08:38 AM

I think he's just too proud (not in a derogatory way). It's like: "It's worth getting out through the big, regular conduits, or it's not worth it."

kdemelli 07-29-2003 08:52 AM

I can understand completely why he would be too proud to do it, but with the big conduit type companies it doesn't seem to be a matter of quality, but of 'how much money can we make?' I don't think an LB solo album would make enough money to warrant the big wigs seriously considering releasing it (I don't mean that in any disrespectful way). and if you look at some of the cr@p that's on the market that comes out of mainstream companies, maybe it would a show of integrity to recognize the motives of these record companies and to release it himself. the problem with pride is that it can become misshapen when it comes into contact with the scope of success that LB is used to. I personally think that it would be a greater show of pride and respect of his work to release it independently; he should just say if you don't want me then i don't need you.

Kate

gldstwmn 07-30-2003 06:01 PM

What if it's neither of the possibilities we've discussed and lindsey is going to rerelease Buckingham Nicks for it's thirtieth anniversary?;)

David R 07-31-2003 03:59 AM

haha Joe (down on rodeo) how dare you steal my sig's spotlight... your new sig is cool!... :) I love that song too... Lindsey and his creative songs... can't get enough of them...

I really hope that the making of say you will comes out... ever since the VH1 show I have been wanting to see it... Buckingham Nicks would be a welcomed surprise too... I highly doubt Lindsey would release "GOS"... if he did realease it on the net... please God don't let him sell it on FleetwoodMac.com... *says a prayer*... we would probably have to join the fan club to get it...

WednesdaysChild 07-31-2003 08:33 AM

I have BN on CD and if I had a burner, I would glady copy it for you all. It's not a bootleg thing either...the CD says Buckingham on it (no Nicks, weird) and the cover and jewel case and all that looks like a "real" CD, straight from Polydor. Of course, I paid $30 for it, but it was worth it!

There is no such thing as an OFFICIAL release of Buckingham Nicks on CD. So, therefore, its a bootleg.

WednesdaysChild 07-31-2003 09:04 AM

No I know there's no "official" release, sillies! But it looks so real...it's not a shady bootleg, like something a kid made on his PC.

That's the one thing I've noticed about CD bootlegs compared to old vinyl LP bootlegs that really amazes me...the high quality of the packaging. Some bootleggers really go all out to make their "product" look "official". It really makes it more difficult to tell what is and what isn't a bootleg anymore.

So true. I remember one seller advertising that his BN CD was official and using as proof that it was "in plastic and unopened." Well, when I was in Junior Achievement back in high school, we used a little gadget that shrink-wrapped stuff all the time and believe me, it did not make any of the crap we were selling any better, lol.

Please, not another resurrected Dance tune. I was very disappointed we got BTLH on "Say You Will" rather than one of the other songs you mentioned.

I agree with you, but it's interesting to note that My Little Demon as a studio track was considerably different from the Dance version. Bleed to Love Her, on the other hand, is quite similar.
