Budweiser Super Bowl ad with Landslide

Just saw a preview clip of new Clydesdale ad--Landslide playing as a foal is born. Clip was on CBS super bowl advert show (8pm Eastern time start, this clip was after 8:30). The clip was brief and I couldn't rewind as the kiddos had the remote. Not a Bud drinker, but I like their ads-so surprised to hear that guitar intro and that familiar voice!

The Superbowl ads always get so much attention. So, this is nice placement.

Is this the first of her songs to be used in a commercial? I can't think of any previous... I can't think of any other FM songs I've ever heard in adverts. Just LB's stuff

Merryl Lynch (i think) used The Chain in a commercial a few years back.

I think a GYOW cover was used in a commercial recently.

Video: Budweiser's New Super Bowl Commercial Uses Ponies, Fleetwood Mac, and a Runaway Horse

Not sure why PornHub.com's tame Super Bowl commercial got shot down by CBS while this Budweiser spot featuring the love between a man and a horse will air.

While the Clydesdale commercial is mediocre at best, it does make me want to go drink a beer at 12:10 on a Thursday afternoon. I suppose that's not saying a whole lot though.

olive 01-31-2013 02:25 PM

they should name the pony stevie

WildHearted 01-31-2013 04:06 PM

That commercial made me tear up. God help me. This is what I've become?

Jondalar 01-31-2013 05:05 PM

ummmm very strange use of the song, man horse love, awww

Oh, I know. I cry about anything these days. You know how sometimes they have those clips of soldiers coming home and their dogs run and greet them and knock them down, licking them, frolicking with joy? I cry mountains. And I don't even like dogs. I would die if one licked me in the face. Still, I get overcome.

Landslide in Superbowl Commercial

I'm haven't seen this posted here, but there is a new Budweiser commercial that will air during the Superbowl. It's with the Budweiser Clydesdales and is called "Brotherhood". It has Landslide being played during the commercial. So cute, here is the link: (not sure if this will work) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2prAccclXs

To be honest, I'm not thrilled. I think appearances in commercials really do taint songs. I can't enjoy songs as much after I've heard them 300 times shilling beer.
I've always been sympathetic to one hit wonders who have to sell their songs, but Stevie certainly doesn't.

i was equally shocked that they licensed the song!

She licensed the song because she thought the commercial would not hurt landslide. I also think they paid her almost a million dollars for 30 seconds of the song.

Landslide - the song that just keeps giving Stevie money.

She has made a fortune off that one song. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

I'msoAfraid95 02-02-2013 09:12 AM

I'm no really thrilled either. Its just for the money and/ or publicity, imo.

Advertisers are paying upwards of $3.7 million just to air their spot during the big game, major synchs can fetch anywhere from $100,000 to upwards of $1 million, depending on the artist, number of territories airing the ad, the length of the commercial "flight," or airtime, and whether the song has been synched previously.

One synch likely on the upper tier of that spectrum is Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide,” which was commercially licensed for the very first time for Budweiser’s "Clydesdale" spot, which debuted online early Thursday. “We knew she was very protective,” Paul Chibe, Budweiser’s VP of marketing, says of Nicks’ tentative approach to synchs, “but when she saw the script she felt it was an appropriate presentation, that it was an elevation of the music and not something that would take away from it.”

WildHearted 02-02-2013 10:14 AM

I like the commercial, it was very sweet. I teared up.

Landslide's already been played/covered to death anyway... how much more could a commercial hurt.

jkmaletic 02-02-2013 10:53 AM

I think its great for her. The commercial is really cute too.

fairydust75 02-02-2013 04:54 PM

Good way to build up Jessica's inheritance, Mama. Too cute.....

Keith 02-02-2013 05:43 PM

What...

I love about landslide..

It's a song about life.. And the seasons.. And life changes..

What I like about this ad.. It is surrounded by too much love..

WildHearted 02-02-2013 05:49 PM

I wonder just how much Stevie will rake in for this.

Get that $$$, Stephanie.

Right. That doesn't tell me how much Stevie is actually getting though. $100,000 to a million is a pretty big range.

Bandon 02-02-2013 06:20 PM

I don't LOVE the ad, but I like it.

I'm sure its around a million, they even said in the article it was probably on the upper side. Budweiser also new that Stevie was protective of the song. They paid her a mint I'm sure.

well now we know the mindset of Stevie's team of advisors.... they see a limited window of remaining time to make money for/from Stevie and they're going for it. It's like them all telling her not to make an album, there's no money to be made anymore because of the big bad internet... And she listened, until she decided she needed to keep making music for her *soul* and not just for the bucks. She needs to listen to her soul more often.
I don't know how many people she actively supports-- I'm sure it's a lot and her overhead costs are ongoing, but...if she's been investing wisely all these years she should be very well off. (maybe some of her investments took big hits in the recession??)

I'm sure she is well aware of what that songs worth - probably more than any of us. I'm sure she got a mint and I can tell that Budweiser needed her, more than she need them. The song makes the commercial.

I don't begrudge her making money, I just hope we get more music from her even if, in the current climate, it won't necessarily make her the kinds of money her back catalogue can make her.

I think she and dave already have songs. I also think that she is a fighter and she wants to make more music. My worry is her age. I remember my mom hitting a wall. You know her body will change one day and she will just say no more. I can see her though being like Joan Rivers and Betty White. Someone described the Budweiser Commercial and Landslide as Americana. It never occurred to me but I think they are right. Stevie is Americana.

yes, I thought about that when for a while she stopped wearing her boots. A lot of people griped and moaned about it and the boots reappeared, but I couldn't help thinking-- she's 60+ people..... I'm a lot younger and I find that *I* can't wear the skyscraper heels I used to in my twenties! And she's practically a senior citizen... we need to cut her some slack, she can't always pull off the same feats she did at 30. I'll just be happy if she keeps making new music

Hey guys! Did you know you can vote to nbame the baby Clydesdale? On Face book and Twitter.

https://www.facebook.com/Budweiser

Maybe we could rally and have it named Stevie or Rhiannon, lol. My friend came up with RoseBUD, which I think is kinda fun!

SummerlongBoots 02-03-2013 10:57 PM

People are loving the commercial over on Bud's Facebook page. :)

FierySequences 02-03-2013 11:26 PM

It is a really cute commercial, one that almost brought a tear to my eye. Much more than hearing Stevie sing the song a million times over (recorded or live) just saying.

elle 02-04-2013 12:05 AM

you guys will love to see this -

Here's a poll you can vote in! At last look, Bud's Clydesdale was #1.
