American Horror Story to use 8 Stevie Nicks songs

American Horror Story: Coven will use 8 Stevie Nicks songs this season. Misty Day = obsessed with Stevie
According to the American Horror Story Wiki, Misty Day is a major character in "Coven". She is considered to be a necromancer witch.

Misty Day Character Background:
A young woman from a backwoods Pentecostal community in the bayous of Louisiana, Misty Day is misunderstood and even feared by those in her community. Without a Coven to call her own, Misty spends her days wandering the swamps and listening to Stevie Nicks.

From a TV Guide Q&A:
American Horror Story: Coven Stars Answer Burning Questions on What's Next

Ryan Murphy was asked:
Can Misty use her regenerative power to bring herself back to life? (If you watched the first episode, her character was burned at the stake).

Murphy:
Of course. I love her character. Her character is obsessed with Stevie Nicks. The season really is an allegory or metaphor for any minority in the country where you feel alone. She's a girl who has never known other witches. The only witch she's ever known is Stevie Nicks, so I reached out to Stevie Nicks and asked her if we could use her music. Lily has an amazing Stevie Nicks shawl twirl scene in Episode 3. We used like eight Stevie Nicks songs this year.

There were no Stevie songs used in episode 1 - i was on tenterhooks waiting.

Jondalar 10-11-2013 06:18 AM

God, the witch who was burnt has a huge obesssion with Stevie. Stevie is sort of a character in the story and its starts 2nd episode.

GoldDustBoy 10-11-2013 06:46 AM

I guess I'll have to start watching the show. Is it any good?

 Stevie quote "I am not a witch! Get a life!" Of course, allowing a show like this to use her music would never encourage anyone to believe that Stevie is a witch.

American Horror Story is kicking butt in the ratings. She knows what she is doing. She knows trends. She'll be known as a witch no matter what. Her publishing company is called Welsh Witch Music and she writes songs about Sisters and Goddesses. It's all over but the crying.

I dont understand all the fuss about her supposedly being a witch. She may be Wiccan, Christian, Muslim, or proclaim herself a coconut tree, and it still wouldn't affect me liking her as an artist. People really like to burden themselves with things that don't matter, or even worse get aggressive and dangerous about them.

EIGHT! That's more than I expected.

I very much enjoyed the first episode of this season. Unlike last season, there is more than just shock & gore... there is humor and a plot that will make sense. The first season was great, but the second season just fell flat for me personally.

I'm dying to know which songs they will use. Hopefully some from IYD. I'm sure if Stevie is at all involved in the choosing of said songs, they will ALL be from IYD.
and yes, she's totally a witch.

I am not a big movie fan, but I like a good sitcom, drama or sf series. Ill give it a try. :)

Rhiannon, Sorcerer, GDW, SOTM, POTU come to mind based on what I managed to find about the content of the show. Kathy Bates plays one of the characters. Another reason for me to check it.

of course she is!
how else do you think she manages to stay ageless and has defied death multiple times?
....

MAJICK

GoldDustBoy 10-11-2013 08:17 PM

It's not like there are owls and crystal balls in her house. No, wait...

Jondalar 10-11-2013 09:08 PM

The show has just broken records on FX, it's hotter than ever and Stevie is sorta in it. Now, if she could do some new songs for its soundtrack and land that Game of Thrones soundtrack...

atlnightbird 10-12-2013 07:35 AM

I wouldnt be surprised if they use the song "New Orleans" at some point...would get more people to check out "In your dreams"

Aussie W/Heart 10-12-2013 07:39 AM

Any Aussie's in da house? if so just wondering if this series has aired here yet? Free to air or Foxtel? Thanks in advance..

I hope they do. That is a sneaky song. It pops up in my head once in awhile and it's got such a bittersweet ending.

Now that seems like a shoe in.

But we are going to get some non-spooky songs too, I bet. I would absolutely die if they played something like Blue Denim, because it would be the last thing I'd expect and then BOOM.

Michele

Jondalar 10-12-2013 12:37 PM

Ok, so in episode 3, Misty Day, the witch, has a little dance number to Stevie Nicks song. She does a twirl in it. I'm guessing Gypsy, Edge of Seventeen or Stand Back.

yes, Blue Denim would be surprising, to say the least. Street Angel the song kinda has a witchy vibe to it...I could hear that in a TV show.

michelej1 10-12-2013 07:12 PM

Yes, with 8 songs you know we're going to get at least one shocker.

Most of them we will go, "Oh yeah. I could have guessed they'd choose that one." But then there will be one that it will seem like it came out of nowhere. Fun.

I wonder if Stevie will watch to hear her songs. She probably won't like the content of the show though, if it's gory this season like it was in the first. I mean, obviously Games of Thrones is gory, but they don't have body parts floating around in glass jars for no reason on GoT.

Does anyone know where I can watch Episode 1 of Coven. I missed it and would really like to see it before Episode 2 airs on Wednesday night. I can't find it online and, unlike most channels, FX does not seem to re-air the previous episode on another night prior to the next episode. I have never watched AHS before but I intend to watch this season, I just forgot last Wednesday that it was on that night.

In Your Dreams 10-13-2013 05:29 PM

FX will rerun it next Wednesday. Episode 2 will air and then they will air an encore of episode 2. Right after that they will air the first two episodes back to back.

Thanks for letting me know. I probably wouldn't have noticed it would be shown after Episode 2 aired twice...Seeing it after Ep. 2 is better than not getting to see it at all. I may record them both and time shift to watch it in order, though I'm not sure it matters that much.

Jondalar 10-14-2013 04:00 AM

I think Emma Roberts is terrific in this show.

Aussie W/Heart 10-14-2013 09:16 AM

I watched the show for the first time tonight here in Oz, & now cant wait to watch next weeks episode..

Im guessing this may of been episode 1, im hoping some of you can remember, would much appreciate the heads up..

Just a couple of scenes that may jog some memories, cheers!

It ended with Cathy Bates character being resurrected after one of the witches discovered her buried under the pavement in New Orleans.
Also the Hollywood movie star witch flipped a bus load of guys that drugged & gang raped her at the fraternity party..

I don't know if it's literally 'eight'.... notice the word 'like'..

it literally reads 'like eight'. Could be any number. 'Eight' could be an exaggeration, or simply a guess.

kak125 10-16-2013 09:07 PM

ahh they opened the show tonight with edge of seventeen. it sounded so good!!

charmedhour26 10-16-2013 09:08 PM

Is anyone watching Coven? Edge of Seventeen just played during opening scene and it was fantastic :]

Sorry to copy your post. I didn't look, I was too excited to check if anyone else already posted.

kak125 10-16-2013 09:58 PM

its all good no worries at all! lol did you see the rhiannon scene? that was the best!!

louielouie2000 10-16-2013 10:11 PM

For those who are still holding out watching, our very own "White Witch" Stevie was a topic of conversation in tonight's episode. :p There was even a Bob Masse poster present.

charmedhour26 10-16-2013 10:14 PM

I did. It was so awesome!!! I can't wait to see what other songs they use. Personally, I would LOVE if Sisters of the Moon was used.

I was watching with a friend, who doesn't listen to Stevie or understand diehard fandom. As soon as Rhiannon came on, I flew off the couch. I think I scared her more than Coven did.

I'm so thrilled about Stevie's music and image/persona being a fixture of this season!

You don't suppose it's possible Stevie could make a surprise guest appearance do you?

Dear god I hope she does! I mean, she could have easily filmed a cameo while FM was on break this summer and she would be herself so there wouldn't be much acting on her part :] *fingers crossed*

MarkMc1990 10-16-2013 11:38 PM

One thing that struck me as odd was when Zoe asked "Stevie Nicks from American Idol?"

Now, Stevie did make a brief appearance as a guest mentor to the contestants on American Idol a few years ago, but that just seemed like a pretty random thing to reference. I wonder if maybe whoever wrote that part of the script thought she was a permanent judge on the show at one point, or perhaps they confused her name with Steven Tyler's.
