True, it's a shame that rock is dead cause i don't know about hip-hop,:sorry: i'm not a real fan, i love the more upbeat dance type RnB but i need the melody of singing and often hip-hop doesn't have that, i might not be listening to the right kind though.

Ren Riz is a young producer out of down under (specifically Melbourne) who’s making a fun mash of sounds — you’ll encounter flavors of house, space disco, funk, electro, french touch and a bunch of other genres called upon for his edits. All together, it’s a cornucopia that has the Kunkers feet on tap mode.

Part of his appeal is obviously related to his production abilities, however we’re also believers in good song selection. The fact that he did a vamped-up version of Stevie Nicks’ Stand Back got immediate bonus points. We’re sharing that track below, as well as an original called Days Fly By, which is a still-in-progress track but one that is already a dancefloor mover. Looking forward for more from Mr. Riz.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kenny Edwards, an original member of the Stone Poneys country-rock band and longtime collaborator with singer-songwriters Linda Ronstadt and Karla Bonoff, has died Aug. 18, 2010, in California at age 64.
The Los Angeles Times reports Edwards was hospitalized earlier in August in Denver after collapsing while on tour with Bonoff. He was airlifted to a hospital near his home in Santa Barbara where he died.

Edwards was born Feb. 10, 1946, in Santa Barbara, Calif., according to his biography at allmusic.com. After the Stone Poneys disbanded after their 1967 breakthrough hit “Different Drum,” Edwards formed the folk-rock band Bryndle with singer-songwriter Wendy Waldman, Bonoff and Andrew Gold.

Edwards also was a supporting guitarist and singer for Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Brian Wilson, Art Garfunkel, Vince Gill and others. In addition to playing bass and guitar, Edwards also worked as a record producer, studio musician and vocalist, and he earned credits for writing and scoring films and teleplays, including “Miami Vice,” according to allmusic.com

The music of legendary singers Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks come together in "One Diva, One Legend, One Woman." A show presented by Jody Joseph, who is actually the first cousin of rock superstar Jon Bon Jovi. Jody presents the influences of these two female icons in the world of rock music as well as some of her own original songs.

Joseph puts her heart and soul into these performances as they represent two of her biggest influences in life. This one-time performance will take place on September 25 at the Brookdale Community College Theater in Lincroft, NJ. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Mary's Place By The Sea foundation.

A tambourine is played while dancing, it has been used in worship for many centuries, it has been played in Europe and its colonies for centuries, and it’s bright, loud and fun. Did I mention the fact that it can have colourful streamers attached? Combined with the fact that a tambourine also just happens to be one of the easiest instruments to play and that my favourite genre of music is good old Rock n’ Roll, a genre that often features the tambourine. I grew up listening to Stevie Nicks!

It turns out that the tambourine, and other drums like it, has a very long and interesting history. It has a deeper spiritual significance than you might think while singing along to a Stevie Nicks album too. This will be the first post following my research into the story of the tambourine and learning to play the damned thing without making an ass of myself.

Turning slightly, I look down at my 2 ½ year old and swat her bottom playfully.

“Scoot up on the couch, my little Jasmine-Flower, and I’ll read our chapter now.”
Betsy scurries to the couch and clambers up, ready for the nightly installment of Little House on the Prairie. The tea kettle is whistling, and I pour the boiling water over my green tea and her chamomile. I take mine naked, nothing added. For Betsy, I add a bit of sugar and some milk. This tasty concoction is a favorite part of the bedtime ritual. Teacups in hand, I walk back into the living room, where I find Betsy looking lovingly at the poster of Stevie Nicks in her red dress.

“When I grow up, Mommy, I want to have a dress like that.” I laugh and say, “Honey, when I grow up, I want to look like that!”

We giggle together, two girls understanding one another completely. Sipping our tea, we settle into the story.

Setting aside the book, I walk to the stereo and change the CD to ocean sounds. Taking my baby up into my arms, I carry her to bed. I tuck her in, praying silently that tonight she won’t have one of those night-terrors she’s been having lately. They are so terrifying – I can’t help but wonder if she really sees something behind me that I cannot see, when she stands before me open eyed, screaming, staring beyond my shoulder. Hopefully not tonight, I think, and kiss her on the
forehead.

“Goodnight, my little babushka,” I say, “sweet dreams!” and she smiles, whispering, “Sweet dreams when you go to bed, Mommy.”

I stop a moment, my hand on the doorknob. Looking back at my grown daughter, I tell her good night one more time before closing the door. I think that it’s only a short while now before she’s no longer in this room. After all, she just graduated from college and is preparing for graduate school. I look around the room, at Betsy’s collection of pirate regalia, mystical candles and incense, the drawing of David Bowie in Labyrinth that she drew on the wall this past year. On the bottom shelf of her
bookcase, I see the entire collection of Little House books, next to the Anne Rice and J.R.R. Tolkien. Lying on the floor is the art pad she ordered so she could illustrate her own poetry. On a hangar on the
side of her bookcase is a gossamer “hippie” skirt. I smile, and glance back at this beautiful young woman who has clothing like Stevies’ and writes poetry so much better than mine. Getting ready to crawl into
bed for the night, Betsy is setting up her sleeping music. As I close the door, I hear Stevie Nicks’ voice….”….you are the poet in my heart…”

“Sweet dreams, Betsy,” I say. She is in bed now. “Sweet dreams when you go to bed, Mommy.”

Kim Gordon is shaping up to be fashion week’s unofficial hostess with the mostest: The alt-rock legend has been receiving friends and fans at fêtes throughout the week (when, that is, she’s not catching the shows). There’s been her new Sportmax collaboration, with its attendant gathering, and then there was the fifth anniversary of No. 6, Morgan Yakus and Karin Bereson’s ultra-cool downtown boutique. The week is wearing on, but Rogan Gregory, Anna Sheffield, and Beastie Boy Mike D appeared to be handling the week’s umpteenth event in stride. Ever the gracious host, Gordon signed copies of the latest No. 6 portfolio, in which her newest series, The Noise Paintings, are featured. She took for her source material a lyric from Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” (”She is like a cat in the dark, and then she is the darkness”) and divided it into 14 single-word paintings on canvas paper. (No. 6 has also printed them onto silk T-shirts, sold at the shop.) Strange bedfellows, the art rocker and the moon child? “I always go back to Stevie Nicks,” Gordon said. And not just her. “I used a Richard Hell lyric for another series, and another one from Kurt Vile, who I can’t stop listening to.” At this party, she didn’t have to: Vile was on hand for an acoustic set.

We all have those people who inform and inspire our style choices regardless of what is in style. Mine is Stevie Nicks circa 1977. I call her look, which I am forever trying to achieve, “black magic bohemian.” It’s all drapey lace blouses and dresses, silky scarves scarves, gold necklaces, and boots. It says, “I’m a free spirit with a dark side.” Yes! After the jump, Frisky staffers share their personal style icons. Who are yours?

MIDDLETOWN — Stevie Winchester thought she would be competing in a sport other than field hockey as a high school student-athlete.

“I was going to play soccer,” Winchester said. “My brother (Mac) played (ice) hockey, so I decided to try field hockey.”

She has played the sport well in her two years as a varsity player at Delaware County Christian School and her two years at Penncrest.

“Stevie’s had a tremendous impact on our team,” Lions head coach Sue Boyer said. “She’s a talented player and a team leader, on and off the field. We’ve had ups and downs, but she’s always pushing herself and her teammates.

“She plays for Typhoon Field Hockey Club, which I help coach, so I’ve watched her grow as a player.”

As for the name Stevie …

“My real name is Stephanie Nicole,” she said, “as in Stevie Nicks. My parents were big Fleetwood Mac fans.”

It's coming! It's coming! It's coming…next year.

Whomp, whomp! But it's still very exciting news.

The legendary Stevie Nicks has announced to sources that she is hard at work on a new solo CD! It's been quite a while since we've heard anything from her that wasn't Fleetwood Mac related, but she assures everyone that the disc will drop sometime next year.

Though it is a solo album, Stevie decided to branch out and collaborate for the very first time. We're told she is writing with The Eurythmic's Dave Stewart. She explains:

"This is a great opportunity to do something new. You feed so much off each other…. [the CD is a] full-blown rock-n-roll album with some beautiful ballads".

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

We can't wait to hear what she's got for us! It's sure to be epic!

Interview with Fefe Dobson

“I grew up with Michael and Janet Jackson, but my older sister was listening to Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana, so I was right in the middle of it,” says Dobson, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto, where she was brought up by a single mom, a mix of native Canadian and English, with a Jamaican father she just recently reconnected with. “I like that combination, especially when I heard Janet’s ‘Black Cat,’ with its rock guitar riff. That’s what this album reflects. I tried to isolate myself from the radio and TV while I was making it. I listened to a lot of old records, like Stevie Nicks, the Doors and Led Zeppelin, real dramatic, emotional music.”

This summer I heard on the radio this great song by John Mayer…Half of my heart. I think the reason why I first listened to the entire song was because it sounded like something Stevie Nicks would write and it reminded me of my sister Rhonda and myself. By the late 1970s Jimmy Iovine began to pursue an interest in production. His major breakthrough came as producer of Patti Smith's Easter album in 1978. It included the hit single "Because the Night." In 1979 he produced Damn the Torpedoes, the first of three successful albums with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In 1981 Jimmy Iovine produced Stevie Nicks' solo debut album Bella Donna which went to #1. Their relationship was both personal and professional continuing through Stevie Nicks' next album The Wild Heart. By the mid 1980s, Jimmy Iovine was one of the most respected pop producers in the music business.

I probably have said this every time I've posted about going to see a Rush show.. but the band had a huge impact on me when I was young. For John, his band was Fleetwood Mac, mostly because of Stevie Nicks. We went and saw them a few years back, and we had very good seats then... maybe 5 or 6 rows back. Stevie does a song where it's traditional for fans to push up against the stage and Stevie kneels down and touchs them. When the point in the song got near, there was a rush to the stage. John is a big guy. He mowed people down - it didn't matter who they were. I think I saw some old ladies being put on stretchers afterward. Stevie Nicks touched him, and it was a big moment.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm older now.. but it doesn't seem like young people today have their own Beatles.. or Rolling Stones.. or Rush. Is it Lady Gaga and Justine Beiber? That's a real shame.

Women In Rock: Stevie Nicks
Posted on September 27, 2010 by jeffreychrist

Interviewed in Los Angeles, on May 11 1985, a few months before the release of her 3rd solo LP ROCK A LITTLE, Stevie Nicks, the Rolling Stone-anointed “Queen Of Rock & Roll” takes on a myriad of subjects.

In part 1, Stevie discusses the hopefully-imminent release of ROCK A LITTLE and what that means, working with her band and the recording of a few of the tracks in a Dallas church, with Jimmy Iovine, music videos (at this point, the first single wasn’t even chosen – eventually it was “Talk To Me”, which hit #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100) and touring, the surge of women in Rock N Roll that year and how Fleetwood Mac helped her become the rock star she is and how they protected her as “the little sister”.

In part 2, Stevie discusses her influence on other artists and how she hopes that, through her energy – if not her singing – those artists could learn something; her fashion influences (Madonna gets out of such comparative influences easily, Prince does not!), the admiration she has for up-and-coming newbie Cyndi Lauper’s strength and Tina Turner’s tenacity and fortitude. She also happily discusses her back-up singers Lori Perry and Sharon Celani (and “Minnie” – you have to watch) and how having them as friends and support make her life so much easier, and the relations and alleged competition between women in general, in music and in life.

She also discusses where her passion for her love of painting comes from, how it sedates her and grounds her and how it’s never been an innate ability or desire until only a few years prior. She opens up about how this passion started due to the sickness of her friend Robin (whom she doesn’t mention by name) and how she started drawing so, when Stevie could not be with her, the image of her drawings kept them connected. She “summons” Sister Honey for the interviewer (which can be seen in the next part of the video), a painting that has become a favorite over the years for Nicks’ fans.

The video is damaged around the 7 minute mark in part 2, but it’s only briefly – and you can still hear the audio.

In the final part, her painting Sister Honey is brought into the room and Nicks explains her origins and again states that this is all (painting, that is) still very new to her. Stevie is then asked about her “book that is coming out”, called “The Wild Heart” and its contents:

“A lot of poetry, it’s some journalistic stuff; it’s a lot of the actual nights of recording of THE WILD HEART and the experiences that happened during that 2-3 year period. There are some things from my Fleetwood Mac stash of 10 years of writing….the real essence of that isn’t in this book because that’s a book in itself…it’s my life, and it’s very honest.”

The book has a lot of “advice” and “philosophy” and a way to “give a little bit more of me”. She’s “very excited about them (her fans) receiving it” more than actually putting it out (We fans have been wishing for years for any book from Stevie – but sadly, “The Wild Heart” was never published.)

She talks about what she does in her down time – which is a foreign concept to her. She’s been working non-stop for over a year and a half, and hopes to take a vacation when it’s over. She talks a little about love, and the possible resurrection of Fleetwood Mac and the bond they share…and how she liked Christine McVie’s solo album and loved the video for McVie’s “Got A Hold On Me” video.

Before the interview is over, Stevie wants to add an an addendum to her earlier philosophy of love, and how she doesn’t want anyone to misinterpret that it’s an impossible ideal – she does believe one can fine it…one just has to look hard.

These are new photos of Taylor Swift in Milan today for the Roberto Cavalli runway show. I didn’t know Swifty was into Cavalli - he seems too rock n’ roll for her girly tastes. I would figure Taylor for Oscar de la Renta and The Gap. But here she is - and I’m assuming this outfit is Cavalli. I don’t really hate it - it’s very Stevie Nicks, correct? Gypsy. Faux gypsy, really. Commercial gypsy. I hate the tights. They’re overkill on an already dowdy outfit - although I think Taylor might make everything look kind of dowdy. She really needs to do something different with her hair, I think.

Excerpt from Oakazine interview with Frances Rose. Michelle names Stevie and Joss Whedon as her favorite artists in any medium:

Q. Who would be your dream musician/s to collaborate with? Why?

Michelle: Alicia Keys or Stevie Nicks because they are brilliant at creating compelling melodies and I love them.

OT, but what's a Josh Whedon? I know a Joss Whedon - is it a typo (I mean, Joss makes TV shows and movies, but it does say "any medium" so I figure it fits)?

Always interesting to see the different places Stevie's name pops up. It's all over the board in terms of sources.
